Meryl Streep Praises Palm Springs Award Winners Billie Eilish and Finneas: ‘Surf That Wave, Kids’

Billie Eilish and Finneas get compliments from a big Hollywood player: Meryl Streep!

After the superstar siblings accepted the Chairman’s Award for their song “What Was I Made For?” On Thursday night during the Palm Springs International Film Awards, Streep, 74, took the stage to present Carey Mulligan with the International Star Award.

But before the presentation Maestro star, Streep told Eilish, 22, and Finneas, 26, “You delivered Barbie love bomb.”

“You saved the movies, last summer. All our jobs,” the three-time Oscar winner continued. “You have brought joy to countless generations and sexes of men, and you should ride that wave, children—until you grow old and deserve to be worn out like me.”

Billie Eilish was ‘purely inspired’ to write ‘Barbie’ song ‘What Was I Made For?’ After overcoming self-doubt

A heartwarming sibling ballad that spins over an emotional montage at the end of the Greta Gerwig-directed film. Barbiehas earned heaps of praise for this musical pair since its release earlier this year.

During their speech on Thursday, Eilish dedicated the award to “anyone who experiences hopelessness and a sense of existential dread, and feeling like, ‘What’s the point?’ “, according to Diversity.

“We all feel that way from time to time,” the Grammy winner continued. “I really didn’t want to be here. Sorry, darkness, curse. I spent a lot of time feeling that way.”

“I want to say to everyone who feels that way, be patient with yourself and know that it’s all worth it. And I think it’s good to be alive,” Eilish added, according to the outlet.

“What was I made for?” has already collected numerous accolades, and is nominated for five Grammys in 2024, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

In a statement ahead of Thursday’s awards ceremony in Palm Springs, Festival president Nachhattar Singh Chandi said, “Billie and Finneas, with their unparalleled talent, have created a beautiful and ethereal ballad that perfectly captures the poignancy of Margot Robbie’s Barbie journey in the film.”

“The Palm Springs International Film Festival is proud to honor these visionary artists for their award-winning musical contributions,” Chandi added.
