Grimace is in his era of baseball!
In the midst of New York’s baseball team’s winning streak — which began the night the beloved McDonald’s mascot threw out the first pitch at Citi Field on June 12 — the Mets organization announced that Grimace is now getting his designated spot in the ballpark.
Mets fans have embraced the big purple character’s presence since that first pitch in a win over the Miami Marlins earlier this summer, and the team’s front office has taken notice of Grimace’s popularity among its fans.
“It’s been great to see the phenomenon our fan base has created for Grimace after his first pitch in June and in the months since,” Brenden Mallette, senior vice president of partnerships for the Mets, said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.
Mallette continued, “As we explored how to further capture the magic of this moment and celebrate our new celebrity fan, placing a commemorative seat on the eve of Fan Appreciation Weekend seemed like the perfect way to give something back to fans in a fun and unique way.”

On Monday, September 16, Grimace returned to Citi Field to celebrate the unveiling of his personal seat — which, of course, was painted purple. The team said the headquarters will honor Grimace’s “special connection with Mets fans,” according to the AP.
In a fun video shared by McDonald’s and the Mets on Instagram, Grimace gives fans a tour of the stadium and arrives in his custom purple seat.

Grimace’s designated seat — which is available for purchase for each of the remaining Mets home games — is in Row 12 of Section 302 at Flushing, NY Stadium. According to the AP, the location of the headquarters represents the June 12 date when Grimace’s streak for the team began.
Andy Goldberg, the Mets’ executive vice president, told the paper it’s been a “fun year” for the team amid regular-season success. “We played great football. We’ve been crushing it since the end of May.”
