Michael Bublé Jokes He Microdosed Mushrooms During Hilarious NHL All-Star Press Conference: ‘I Thought I Was in Blades of Glory’

The Grammy-winning singer, 48, attended the 2024 NHL All-Star Game press conference, where he joked with reporters that he microdosed mushrooms before stepping onto the Scotiabank Arena ice for the All-Star Game mock draft in Toronto.

“A friend told me this was just a microdose of mushrooms and he was lying,” Bublé joked on Thursday. “So, I’ll be honest, I thought I was in favor Blades of Glory most of the time I spent until it kind of calmed down and then I realized, ‘Shit, I’m at the NHL All-Star Game.’ ”

Bublé’s reference to the 2007 ice-skating comedy came after he detailed his knowledge of fantasy hockey and how it played a role in his choices as the celebrity captain. In response to his lengthy response, co-captain Will Arnett playfully jabbed at Bublé.

“It just seems that through all the amazing songs you’ve made over the years and all the hearts of women you’ve won all over the world, along with all that great hockey talk, you’ve lost it in one sentence,” joked 53-year-old Arnett. “It’s simple. evaporated. Years of construction and it’s just gone.”

“Talking about mushrooms also cost me all my contacts,” Bublé said, before Arnett asked reporters if they wanted to “follow mushrooms.”

The rest of the press showed Bublé joking that the captains were “making deals” behind the scenes and calling himself a “superstar” for being selected for Saturday’s All-Star game. Later that night, ua appeared video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) analyst Steve “Dangle” Glynn, who asked the singer if he was really “on mushrooms while on stage”.

“It was a joke,” Bublé said. “Of course not! I’m sitting here at dinner. I have a problem with the bread.”

Earlier this week, the “Haven’t Met You Yet” singer spoke with PEOPLE about his role as the captain alongside Arnett, Tate McRae and Justin Bieber. He revealed that he was “thrilled to say yes to this opportunity” and joked that he is a “veteran” of the game, having previously signed a one-day contract with the Vancouver Canucks in 2011.

“I would like to be called ‘Big’, but that’s what they’re already using for [Wayne] Gretzky, so I’ll take the ‘Good One’ or the ‘Adequate One,'” he said.

Bublé added that “we’re like 12-year-olds doing it,” referring to himself and Arnett. “This is like every child’s dream… Are you kidding me? Any kid who loves the NHL,” he said.

The singer then explained: “Imagine being able to go and sit with the biggest players in the world. Can we be part of selecting an All-Star team to compete against each other? That’s crazy!”

The 2024 All-Star Game airs on ABC, ESPN+, Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports on Saturday, February 3, at 3:00 PM EST.
