Michael Jackson Movie Will 'Shine a Different Light' on the 'Complicated' Star, Says Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo teases the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic.

Michaelscheduled for April 18, 2025, “will shine a different light on Michael Jackson,” said Domingo, 54 Party tonight at the BET Awards on June 30, where he was nominated for Best Actor.

The King of Pop, who will be played by his real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson in the biopic, left a complicated legacy that included multiple allegations of sexual abuse following his death at age 50 in 2009.

“Michael Jackson is undoubtedly one of the most prolific artists that has ever existed on this planet,” Domingo told the house. “He’s a complicated human being and I think the film will tell the story of a very complicated person.”

Oscar nomination Rustin star joins Jaafar, 27, on screen as Michael’s father Joe, who managed the Jackson 5 and daughters Rebbie, La Toya and Janet from the 1960s to the ’80s.

Nia Long plays Jackson’s matriarch Katherine Jackson, while 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi portrays Jackson 5-era Michael, and Miles Teller plays Michael’s lawyer and manager John Branca.

Michael recreates for the screen “the triumphs and tragedies of the pop star on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, displayed in his most iconic performances,” according to the official synopsis.

“Like never before, audiences will experience an inside look at one of the most influential, pioneering artists the world has ever known.”

Domingo said yes ET“Honestly, I think people are going to be surprised by what we’re going to do with this movie. It’s going to be epic.”

He especially praised the leading man of the biopic. “When people see Jaafar Jackson and what he does, they’re going to be blown away,” the actor continued. “There is a kind of spiritual connection he has with his late uncle. It is beautiful.”

15.02.2024.  Jaafar Jackson was spotted on the set of the new Michael Jackson biopic in Los Angeles.  The 27-year-old American singer and actor bore an uncanny resemblance to his uncle Michael Jackson as he was photographed heading to the set.  Nia Long who plays Michael's mother Katherine Jackson was also pictured on set.

Michael Jackson owed more than $500 million at the time of his death, new court documents reveal

Jaafar is Jermaine’s son, who has performed alongside brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Michael since their Jackson 5 days.

Moments of Jaafar in action as his uncle on the set of the film emerged after his role was announced in January 2023. The actor was recently seen recreating the “Thriller” music video, one of several iconic musical moments Michael will include.

Domingo also stars in the movie A24 Sing sing (in theaters July 12), a drama about the Rehabilitation Through the Arts theater program at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility featuring former inmates of the program. His acclaimed game Wild with Happy recently premiered as an audio adaptation on Audible.
