The recent drama surrounding the Cyrus family began after Billy Ray performed at the Liberty Ball during Trump’s inauguration festivities on January 20.
At the time, the country star experienced technical difficulties during his performances of “Achy Breaky Heart” and his Lil Nas X Collam “Old Town Road.”
The next day, Billy Ray told People in an exclusive statement that it was an “honor” to play the event, and he doubled down on those sentiments in a Jan. 22 Instagram post.

Also on Jan. 22, Trace—whom Billy Ray adopted in 1993 after marrying now-ex-wife Tish—wrote an emotional letter on Instagram, expressing concern for his father.
“It seems like the world has beaten you down and it’s become apparent to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this, but at this point I could really care,” Trace, 35, wrote in part.
He also included an apparent reference to his sisters Miley, Noah Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus – who Billy Ray also adopted in 1993 – writing that they were all “genuinely worried” about their father, who Trace said had “pushed” them all. (Billy Ray also shares son Christopher Cody Cyrus with ex-girlfriend Kristina Luckey and son Braison Cyrus with Tisha, 57, whom he divorced in 2022.)
“We’re all hanging out reminiscing about the man we once knew and hoping for the day he comes back. You’re not healthy dad and everyone’s noticing,” Trace added, later concluding, “I don’t know what you” I’m struggling right, but I think I will help you pretty good idea and I would like to help you and receive help. ”
