Mini-Review: Infernax Deux or Die

Mini review: Infernax Deux or Die

I don’t often get a chance to review a popular review title after it’s published, but when Arcade Crew looks up information about the latest major update HellOf course you have to go and see for yourself.

So for those who haven’t heard Hell You can already see our review from last year. But in short, this is a bloody fantasy action game in the style of classic NES games like Zelda II or Castlevania II. At launch, it had some secret alternate characters and how to unlock them after passing levels, but the new update added another character from the start as well as a new way to play.

Cervul the squire will be your second player in the new couch co-op update, double or die, published on April 5, 2023. Cervul is not only a clone of Alcedor, but also supports its owner’s abilities with ranged attacks and summoner spells. He’s only available in two-player mode, but you can experience it in card mode, allowing solo players to switch between them freely, with your unchecked character going Follow you invincible.

I tried a new file in tab mode and found it almost exclusively plays as Cervul. One thing I noticed immediately is that the game is much easier, continuing the long tradition of supporting heroes. Of course, try to increase the difficulty by increasing the number of enemies, but the basic attack of the squire is to throw endless axes like some vampire slaying hammer brothers. Just having an infinite range option will help deal with a large number of enemy positions in order to frustrate players with only short ranged attacks in front of them. The increased number of enemies also doesn’t make things more difficult, but it also means you get experience and gold faster.

Another change is that losing a life in two player mode doesn’t reset the room but respawns near where you died. Besides, even if you are dead, you still have more chances, because you won’t finish the game before dying with both characters, which basically gives you a free life .

Now, in general, it’s not completely free. Cervul is not as effective at attacking what is near and in front of him, and most of his tools are better suited for proper two-player play and less useful in card mode. Speaking of playing with another player, although it allows you to share the pain twice, you are both vulnerable. Without the right teamwork, you’ll find yourself dying twice.

Ultimately, though, the main draw of this update is the ability to play against another person. Hell It’s a deliberate throwback to the 8-bit era, when getting together with some friends and playing in the same room was an expected feature of most games. The classic pitfalls are there too. With a shared life pool and a shared screen, both players can roll and you join this three-legged race together. Whether that means working together for a flash attack in a neater way than going it alone or intentionally hurting your partner, it’s part of the classic gaming experience that was previously missing.

Hell Already one of my favorite games of the last year, this week’s update is the perfect excuse to come back again. New options that allow for a more tactical approach to encounters and playing against others add a whole new level of unpredictability. It’s an added bonus and best of all, it’s completely free and optional. If that doesn’t sound appealing, the single-player mode is still there, but if you’re into single-player games, I’d encourage you to give it a try.
