In 2006, Mithoon started working as a music composer; however, he gained popularity in the Indian music industry in 2011 with the songs Phir Mohabbat from the movie Murder 2 and Tum Hi Ho from the 2013 movie Aashiqui 2.
He came into limelight in 2005 when his songs “Woh Lamhe” from the movie Zeher and “Aadat” from the movie Kalyug became super hits. The following year, he composed songs for the movie “Bas Ek Pal”, in which the famous Indian singer KK sang the title song of the film, and Atif Aslam sang the song “Tere Bin”.
