Freddie Freeman’s three-year-old son returned home after eight days in the hospital.
In a joint Instagram post on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Los Angeles Dodgers player, 34, and his wife, Chelsea Freeman, shared an update on their son Max’s health.
Max was admitted to hospital after experiencing severe pain in July and was diagnosed with transient synovitis, a condition also called irritable hip. He was also diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome and a few days later was paralyzed.
“After 8 long days in the pediatric intensive care unit, we are officially HOME!” Freedie and Chelsea started their Instagram caption. They pointed out that the three-year-old “still has a long way to go before he regains his strength and learns to walk”, but they are grateful that their family is together again.
“Thank you God for this miracle. Also, thank you to our amazing team of angel doctors and nurses for taking such good care of our boy. And to our village for helping so much with Charlie and Brandon,” the couple added.

Among the photos posted in the post was one of Chelsea, Freddie and Max in a hospital bed.
A picture of a notebook with “prayers for Max” written on the cover was also shared. Chelsea said in a post on her Instagram Stories that it was given to Max by “our entire Dodgers family” and that it was filled with “prayers and good wishes.”
The Instagram post also included a video of Max in the arms of his brothers, Charlie, 7, and Brandon, 3, at home.

Last month, Freddie learned that Max was rushed to the ER due to pain that left him “unable to sit, stand or walk”.
The child “stopped eating or drinking and was very lethargic,” according to Chelsea’s Instagram Story at the time. In the end, he was diagnosed with a medical condition caused by inflammation of the lining of the hip.

Earlier this month, Chelsea took to Instagram to share an update on Max’s health, which included his subsequent diagnosis. “Last Friday, Max took a rapid decline and went into full-body paralysis. We’re very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time so they could strengthen his lungs,” she began.
“Freddie was in Houston at the time and rushed to catch the first flight home. After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. A rare neurological condition that is especially rare in children,” Chelsea continued.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Guillain-Barré syndrome occurs when “the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.” The exact cause is not known.

Ahead of his release to intensive care, in an August 3 Instagram Stories update, Chelsea said his feeding tube had come out a day earlier. I am so proud of Max, she wrote.
“The first few days we had so many scary problems, but he improved so quickly. I can’t believe it. He blew me away,” added Chelsea.
