Model Bianca Balti Reveals Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis: 'It's Been a Week Full of Tears, but Mostly Hope and Strength'

Bianca Balta was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

On Sunday, September 15, Sports Illustrated The swimsuit model, 40, shared a health update on Instagram with pictures and videos from a recent hospital visit. “Last Sunday I went to the ER to find out my lower abdominal pain was stage 3C ovarian cancer,” she began her caption.

“It’s been a week full of fear, pain and tears, but mostly love, hope, laughter and strength,” Balti continued, telling her fans to “check out these pictures for proof.”

“I have a long journey ahead of me, but I know I will overcome this,” she wrote. “For myself, my loved ones (my daughters are at the top of the list) and all of you who need strength, you can borrow some from me because I have plenty.”

Balti concluded her news: “Life happens; give it a reason. So far, cancer has given me the opportunity to find beauty through life’s obstacles.”

Her post included a beautiful bouquet and selfies of loved ones visiting her in the hospital along with hospital staff. Balti also shared videos of herself going in and out of different hospital rooms with IV poles.

In one clip, she gave her followers an update after the operation. “I’m doing a lot better and I’m blessed to know,” she said, adding that she had undergone surgery and was facing chemotherapy.

She also said that she has “high hopes for everything”.

A series of chance encounters in late 2022 led Balti to evaluate her genes and she discovered that she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene. She learned that she had a 50 percent chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer, along with a 30 percent chance of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

In December 2022, she underwent a preventive double mastectomy.

“I wasn’t sick yet — but I knew that the chances of being sick one day were much higher. And now I had the free will to do something about it,” she said Vogue in March surgery.

“The hardest part of this whole process was the fear,” she told the publication. “Finding out the diagnosis, the unknown, being off work, not knowing what my body will look like.”

Balti is the mother of Matilda, whom she shares with ex-husband Christian Lucidi, and Mia, who she shares with husband Matthew McRae. The two got married in court in 2016, and the following year they had a big wedding celebration.
