Chloe Wakelin was 25 when she began to experience flu-like symptoms in her stomach-but as a kindergarten worker and a six-year-old mother, she assumed she had picked up a beetle from one of the children.
When the symptoms – infatuation, nausea, fatigue – persisted, visited her doctor. After Crohn’s disease and irritable intestinal syndrome, the doctor said it was, indeed, only the stomach, Wakelin said to Kennedy News and Media through Daily Mail.
Wakelin, who comes from the English city of Rochdale, says her symptoms are easy to dismiss because “I did not have” typical “symptoms for bowel cancer,” for which the Mayo Clinic says they include a bloody stool and weight loss.

Her condition worsened in December 2023, when she threw something she described as “like a cigarette.” She visited the hospital, but says she didn’t give her tests until she returned a month later – this time, when her skin started “yellow”.
Jaundice – yellow on the skin and eyes – a sign is evident that something is wrong with the liver, so Wakelin says she finally got scanning. At that time, doctors discovered a tumor in their colon and realized that it had already developed a sepsis, a life -threatening condition that occurs when the body responds incorrectly to infection.
She was told that the part of the gut should be removed immediately.
“I was told that if I hadn’t had surgery, I would have 12 hours of life because my kidney and liver collapse,” she said. The doctors removed her 25 cm, along with her lymph nodes, due to the spread of cancer. It was equipped with a stomach in the stomach, which provides an external way to leave the body, where it collects in a ostomy bag.

“Waking up in recovery, I remember feeling my stomach. It just felt like everything had collapsed around me,” Wakelin said on sale.
“You always think you are too young in 25 years because it is usually cancer that affects older people,” Wakelin says, adding that it shares its story to help raise awareness of colon cancer in young people.
The rates of diagnosis of colon cancer – and death from the disease – are constantly increasing in people under the age of 50, the American cancer said.
“I just would like to remind everyone not to be ashamed of going to their GP for any symptoms they can have, regardless of your age,” Wakelin said. “It can affect anyone.”
