Moose Interrupts ‘Impatient’ Woman’s Costco Trip in Alaska: ‘Making Me Run Behind Schedule’

Costco trips in Alaska can have some unique obstacles.

On February 10, Amber Rotar was wrapping up her Costco shopping trip in Anchorage when she was approached in the parking lot by a local resident – a giant male moose.

According to SWNS, Rotar filmed the encounter, capturing the animal sniffing her stroller as she did her best to give the wild creature some space.

“I was born and raised in Alaska, so I’m used to seeing elk everywhere – along the road, on the trails, in the yard – but never this close without a wall or a window separating us,” Rotar told SWNS.

“Fortunately, he didn’t show any aggression, so I wasn’t so much scared as I felt a healthy dose of apprehension,” she added.

In Rotar’s video, she stands behind her car and tries to get the animal to “squeak”.

“I’ll give you a sweet potato,” Rotar tells the animal as he sniffs through its cart.

Rotar remained calm throughout the interaction, but told SWNS the encounter left her “impatient.”

“I was impatient more than anything, because I was there for my work and he was making me late,” she said.

Rotar added that the moose hung around her car for about five minutes before moving on, taking particular interest in her sweet potatoes and peppers.

But the moose didn’t get away with Rotar’s food because the food was already packed.

SWNS reported increased human-moose interactions in Anchorage due to heavy snowfall. The extra snow made it harder for wild elk to find food, forcing them to look for other options.
