The 32-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital, where her life is still in danger this morning, the police said.
She is understood to have been on a “family day” with her young child when the horror unfolded.
A 29-year-old man is also in the hospital and his life is not in danger.
Officers are awaiting updates on the condition of the 24-year-old man.
Officers said a Section 60 order was issued on Sunday night to increase officers’ powers to stop and search.
In a police update, a Met Police spokesman said: “A 32-year-old woman who was stabbed at the carnival yesterday remains in a critical condition in hospital.
“We are appealing to anyone with information about further violence that may occur today to come forward.”
DAC Ade Adelekan added: “Yesterday we saw the first day of carnival marked by unacceptable violence. Three people were stabbed and we narrowly avoided a fatality.
“This was supposed to be a ‘family day’ – a celebration suitable for all ages. One of those in hospital, a 32-year-old woman who remains in a critical condition, was at the carnival with her young child.
“We’re tired of saying the same words every year. We’re tired of telling families that their loved ones are seriously injured, or worse. We’re tired of seeing crime scenes at the carnival.
Notting Hill revelers take to the streets in fantastical feathers as the party gets underway
“Carnival is a community event and the vast majority of people come to celebrate, dance, enjoy the music and have a fantastic experience.
“It is the responsibility of all who value this event, who want to see it as the celebration it should be, to speak up and talk about the violence that continues to overshadow it.
“Please tell us if this is information about a previous incident that is now being investigated or information about someone coming to the carnival today to commit a crime.
“If you know anything that could help us, please call the police directly or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously. It’s no exaggeration to say it could save a life.

“Unfortunately, a minority came to commit crime and participate in violence.”
The carnival is Europe’s biggest street party, and organizers call it “the biggest community-led event on the planet”.
Around one million people are expected to attend over the bank holiday weekend, with around 7,000 officers on duty during the celebrations.
Police said the order also gives officers the power to demand the removal of face coverings used to conceal a person’s identity, and anyone who refuses can be arrested.
Earlier on Sunday, the streets of west London came alive with colour, costumes, dancing and music as thousands of revelers enjoyed the celebrations.
During Sunday’s Children and Families Day, young people danced in the streets along the parade route in bright and elaborate costumes.
The annual celebration of Caribbean heritage, arts and culture has been held for more than 50 years.
The main parade takes place on Monday, and the organizers describe it as the highlight of the carnival with “party vibes”.
