A MUM and baby were “thrown into the air” after a car plowed into a crowd outside Lidl, according to witnesses.
Five people were taken to hospital after a Peugeot crashed into pedestrians in Liverpool at around 12.50pm this afternoon.
They are checked for “prevention” and there are no reports of serious injuries.
A man in his 50s was taken into custody at the scene near the Lidl branch in Bootle.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while impaired by alcohol.
A witness told the Mirror: “The mum and her baby were literally thrown into the air on the grass verge by the road.
“The mom was screaming for her baby, she was white as a sheet and the stroller was on her side. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Eyewitnesses told the Liverpool Echo they saw prams near the scene and “Christmas shopping all over the pavement”.
Video footage of the gut-wrenching scene shows the silver car crashing into a tree as a pram lies on a grass verge behind a police cordon.
Arriva North West has announced diversions to bus services in the area due to the “serious” incident.
It said: “Due to a serious police incident on Stanley Rd/Marsh Lane, Bootle, all Bootle services are subject to delays and cancellations.
“Passengers traveling from Queen Square / Sir Thomas St should expect significant delays. Please allow more time for your journey.”

Traffic is being diverted from the area while several ambulances and firefighters deal with the incident.
More than a dozen policemen were also spotted around cars and baby carriages.
