Mum-of-four, 33, dies ‘without warning’ while daughters unwrap their Christmas presents

A MUM of four tragically passed away on Christmas Day while her children were happily opening presents in another room.

Ashley Stanik told her ex-boyfriend and the father of her children, Kane, that she was not feeling well and needed to lie down.

The 33-year-old asked her father to film their girls opening their presents while she tried to “take a nap” at their home near Brisbane, Australia.

Just a few hours later, Kane discovered Ashley dead.

Her sister-in-law Cassandra said the family was struggling to come to terms with Ashley’s death.

“There was no indication that anything was wrong, which makes it even harder to figure out,” she told the Courier Mail.

Mom was gift shopping on Christmas Eve and spent the hours before she died wrapping and putting presents under the pine tree.

After waking up early on December 25, Ashley said she wasn’t feeling well.

Cassandra said: “She was awake for a few hours in the morning but went back to bed to see if she could get some sleep.

“My brother, Kane came in to wake her up around 2.30pm, but it was too late. She had already left us.”

Ashley’s daughters, aged four, eight, 12 and 18, were devastated by their mother’s death and are now with their father.

Since Ashley’s sudden death, Kane has spent most of his time at home taking care of his daughters, according to Cassandra.

But dad is worried he won’t be able to cover the funeral costs because he’s on a disability pension.

In an attempt to help her brother, Cassandra set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for the funeral.

So far, AUD 5,042 (GBP 2,698) has been raised.

“[We are] wanting to raise money for the funeral and help her four children, she unfortunately left us on Christmas Day,” he wrote.

“They [children] they were left to say goodbye without anyone knowing how to pay [for the] funeral and how much help these children will need to get some of them back to normal.”

The exact cause of Ashley’s death has not been released, but it is not known that she had any medical problems.

The sudden death of a previously healthy young person is a rare but tragic event.

Each year, approximately one in 100,000 people between the ages of one and 35 die suddenly of natural causes.

The vast majority of sudden deaths in young people are caused by heart disease, according to the Mayo Clinic.

In people over the age of 35, the most common trigger for sudden cardiac death is a heart attack caused by a blood clot that obstructs the flow of blood and oxygen to a part of the heart.

Heart attacks in younger people are usually the result of hereditary abnormalities that lead to high cholesterol levels.
