My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a rom-com that we never get tired of, so when the bosses behind the movie announced a third chapter, fans were naturally ecstatic!
The original 2002 film was a huge hit when it was released and led to a spin-off in 2016. And now the cast is back for a third time and HELLO! has an exclusive first clip from the film. Check it out below…

Nia Vardalos and John Corbett return to reprise their roles as Toula Portokalos and Ian Miller, respectively, a married couple who embrace their different origins and come together as one (Big Fat Greek) happy family.

Nia Vardalos as Toula
In the footage, Nia and John are seen on a rooftop in Greece overlooking the town where her father, Gus, grew up. The couple vows to have more fun in life after reflecting on Nia’s father’s upbringing.
However, the third film is tinged with real-life sadness as the actor who played Gus, Michael Constantine, sadly passed away in 2020. Not only that, but Nia, who plays the lead Toul and wrote the film, lost her father shortly before. Which means the story of the third film is a personal full-circle moment for the star.

She said: “In March 2020, after a period of poor health, I lost my father. And very soon after that we lost Michael Constantine, who played my father, Gus. I was grieving and processing both during the pandemic. I started to find a way to manage with our grief through our fingers and a script appeared about how we fulfill our father’s last wish.”
Nia added: “I wanted to explore the theme of immigration and as always, family dynamics. The genesis of this story is that my dad always wanted us to go to his family village high in the mountains on the Greek mainland. But as adults, when my brother and sister and I used to go to Greece, we would always go to the islands because there are parties there.”

The synopsis of the film reads: “The film begins after the Portokalos family is sent an invitation to participate in a gathering of all the families who have moved away from the village where their father is from. It was sent to them by Victory (Melina Kotselou), an extremely passionate mayor.

“Before he passed away, Toula’s father, Gus, asked her to go to a reunion and meet with his old friends to pass on the journal he kept about his life story. In honor of his memory, the Portokalos family wants to see where their dad grow up.”
