“Everyone was expected to arrive, but Angie is not returning my calls. I honestly don’t know what happened, but I have no doubt that he will call me soon,” I remarked.
“The least she could have done was leave the children; I’m not sure what’s going on with her. I’ll call her,” John urged.
To my astonishment, Angie answered when John called her. Later, John would explain to me why my daughter ran away on my birthday.
John continued, sounding slightly angry, “So it turns out Angie, her new boyfriend and the kids are on vacation.”
“The trip? Didn’t she tell anyone about it? Did she just leave? Why would she act like that?” I inquired.
“Patty, your guess is as good as mine. How can he get away with taking my children and not speaking a word to me?” John answered.
“Oh no, that’s wrong. This is really disappointing,” I replied, completely confused.
“She mentioned in passing, but the whole vacation? Besides, it seems that they have been organizing everything for about a month. I’m sorry, Patty, but I think your daughter went a little too far this time,” John replied in an irritated tone.
“Yes, this is disappointing,” I said regretfully.
I was completely unprepared for this news that left a wound in my heart. At least Angie could have informed me that she wouldn’t be available. After talking to Angie for a bit, I asked her to come visit me as soon as she could with the kids. She didn’t want to annoy me, but it was too late. I will always love her as my daughter, but I was very upset.
Thank God John was there to ease the pain. But I was very hurt by what my daughter did. I’m not sure how to trust her right now. How should I have reacted in this situation?
