REALITY TV has been around for a long time, so it’s no surprise that television shows feel the need to push the boundaries.
And that’s exactly what Rylan Clark’s new reality show, Dating Naked UK, aims to do – thought The Bachelor in buff.

The Paramount+ show will feature ten episodes of eager (and brave) singles looking for love while letting it all hang out in Colombia.
Rylan recently revealed that there were safety concerns during filming that had nothing to do with the contestants’ nudity.
“I was there for a month and they’re quite liberal, but the only thing I had to worry about was being a famous person from Europe – so the pirates really worried me.
“That sounds really crazy, but the actual pirates were the biggest concern because we were on an island filming the show.
“Moving around at night while we were filming could have ended up with pirate ships coming for me.
“Supposedly they never hurt you, they just want a few bucks.”
Of course, Dating Naked UK is far from the first reality show where people bare everything.
And it’s not just the likes of Bare Attraction in on the action, some really have to be seen to be believed.
Naked, alone and running home
This short-lived survival series only lasted one season – but what a season it was.
In this crazy reality TV show, contestants get excited before being dumped in the middle of the English countryside with a partner – often a complete stranger.
I live in an apartment and sunbathe naked on the balcony as soon as the sun comes up – my neighbors can see my tits, but who cares?

This was followed by a mad three-day race to beat the other team to civilization where a prize of £5,000 – and their clothes – awaited.
The series was popular but unfortunately got the ax after one season as Channel 4 was forced to make cost-cutting decisions.
Naked and scared
The American show Naked and Scared places survivors in the wilderness, strips them of their clothes and adds a challenge to stay alive and unharmed for 21 days.
Each competitor is allowed a cross-body bag containing a camera for when the camera crew is not present at night and a map.

Each person is allowed one useful item such as a knife or a fire starter, and the camera crew is prohibited from intervening unless it is a serious emergency.
As the runners make their way through the wilderness, viewers are provided with updated running statistics, including the number of days that have passed and the current temperature.
The show was a huge hit and is still running today with the addition of Naked and Scared XL, which launched in 2015 and has the same premise but for 40 days.
Send acts: SOS by body
It’s not a dating show, it’s not a survival show, and it’s not a makeover show.
Hosted by Vogue Williams, Send Nudes: Body SOS wanted to fix the stigma around cosmetic surgery by getting people to send in their nudes, along with a description of the cosmetic procedure they want.

From there, an AI created an image of their enhanced body for them (and us) to stare at. This image was then shown to 50 strangers who commented on the changes.
It was a short-lived venture, with E4 canceling the series after just one season, saying it was not due to budget.
A spokesman said: “Every year, Channel 4, like all other broadcasters, makes decisions about which shows to cut, bring back or end to make sure we’re always innovating and offering viewers the best choice of programming.
“The decision not to reorder Send Nudes: Body SOS was not a financial one.”

In a daring combination of formats, Adam Zkt. Eve took the isolation of Naked and Afraid and the sexual tension of Naked Attraction by putting the singles on a desert island in their birthday suits.
To spice things up, after the couple met, a third contestant (also a goal) was thrown into the mix to try and lead the partners away from each other.
The contestant would choose between the two and then decide in the real world if he wanted to continue his love affair with his clothes on this time.
The play inspired several reimaginings across Europe

The real exception in nudity-based reality TV shows was Buying Naked, a Florida-based show where nudist real estate agent Jackie Youngblood helped her nudist clients find real estate in the nudist capital of North America – Pasco County.
It ran from 2013 to 2014 and involved a host of impressive object placements to hide a potential buyer’s goods from onlookers.
“We didn’t want to have a show that was a total blur until the end,” executive producer Mike Kane told Fox News.
“You’ll see bare rear ends. We don’t have to blur them out, but you won’t see anything other than that. Or we creatively blocked it [or blurred it]… but it never goes beyond just the rear ends.”
Bare jungle

This unique special was presented by a naked Keith Chegwin and involved ten competitors – all nudists – running a sort of assault course to celebrate the 50th anniversary of British naturism.
The hour-long show was broadcast in 2000 and the Independent Television Commission said it had received just one complaint, which was that they could have done “without Keith Chegwin strutting around”.
An ITC spokesman replied that there were no guidelines against Keith being on television and that the nudity was late at night and well-marked – and therefore not in breach of codes.
Keith seems to have done without his own hopping, however, as he later admitted that being the host of the show was the “worst career move” of his life.
Bare office

Team building gets a radical makeover in this one-off show when a struggling marketing firm is instructed to strip down its gear by business psychologist David Taylor.
The theory from David’s point of view was that by shedding their clothes, onebestway employees could also shed their inhibitions and be open with each other.
After a week of various team-building exercises in clothing, staff are invited to take part in Naked Friday – which is exactly what it sounds like.
Surprisingly, all staff participated to some extent. One man decided to wear a strange bag around his genitals, while another woman decided that just being in her pants was enough.
Naked attraction

This was the flash in the pan (or on the screen) that started it all.
The premise is simple.
A line of people stand behind screens that lift upwards, starting at their toes, to reveal all their bumps, lumps and bums – while a qualified single man observes and comments on each new bit revealed.
Each time the screen slides up, the contestant eliminates someone until there are two left.
Finally, after seeing everything there is to see, the contestant also strips down and chooses who they want to date.
It was broadcast across Europe, and the American series was released on HBO Max last September.
Bare education

Hosted by Anna Robertson, who also chairs Naked Attraction, Naked Education was a controversial show that used nudity as a visual aid to teach younger people.
In an effort to normalize and educate themselves about bodies and the differences between them, adults would strip in front of teenagers to show them that all bodies don’t have to be perfect to be appreciated.
Despite the positive message behind the nudity, some viewers were angry that adults were standing naked in front of teenagers aged between 14 and 16 – Ofcom received 1,297 complaints about the series during its run.
However, others loved it, saying it was a useful, educational and important show that allows teenagers to see the beauty in diversity.
