  1. Neeraj Chopra was born on December 24, 1997 in Khandra village in Panipat, Haryana.
  2. His family is mainly engaged in farming.
  3. He has two older sisters and graduated from Dayanand Anglo Vedic College, Chandigarh.
  4. He is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts at Lovely Professional University, LPU in Jalandhar, Punjab.
  5. His height is 178 m, making him 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 86 kg.

Neeraj Chopra: Sports career

  1. As a child, Neeraj was always teased for being overweight, then his father enrolled him in a gym in Madlauda and later in Panipat.
  2. Jaiveer Choudhary recognized his talent when he once visited the Panipat Sports Authority. He was also Neeraj’s first coach.
  3. Neeraj was then enrolled in the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula, where he was coached by Naseem Ahmad. Under his guidance, he learned to run long and throw javelin. He achieved a throw distance of 55 metres, but when he competed in the Children’s Championship in Lucknow in 2012, he threw a record 68.40 metres.
  4. He hit 70 meters on the senior team and a record of 81.04 meters on the junior team.
  5. Then he got a call from NIS Patiala where he was going to train for the future.
  6. Neeraj’s first medal was a silver at the 2014 Bangkok Youth Olympic Games qualifiers.
  7. At the South Asian Games, Chopra threw a record 87.3 meters and won the gold medal.
  8. 2016 was another good year for him, but he failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics due to a shortened date conflict. He won a gold medal at the 2016 IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland and set a junior world record in the 86.48 meter javelin throw.

Neeraj Chopra: Indian Army Recruitment

Neeraj Chopra was invited as a junior officer in the Rajputana Rifles in the Army after the Indian Army was impressed by his performance at the South Asian Games. He was awarded the Naib Subedar rank, which athletes do not easily obtain.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
