HOMEOWNERS will never use their tumble dryer again thanks to the washing machine’s secret button.
Most people overlook the handy button, but it could save you hundreds of pounds over the course of a year.

Tumble dryers can be energy- and money-sucking machines, costing around 67p per cycle.
In the warmer months, we can hang clothes on the washing lines outside, but the opportunity to do so becomes less and less common as we head into winter.
But there is a way to reduce drying time on one of the most energy-efficient appliances in your home during colder conditions.
One social media user revealed that using a spin cycle has saved her a ton of money over the years.
This works by speeding up the drying process after you finish washing your fresh but wet laundry.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Deanne said: “After I’ve done a lot of washing, I always put the wash on an extra spin to get more water out of the clothes which will dry faster.”
Another user replied: “I like this, my grandmother taught me this.
“Really handy if you’re wearing your clothes to a girl rehearsal, cuts about six hours off the drying time.”
Others recommended hanging laundry outside despite winter conditions.
They wrote: “Continue to hang your laundry outside in the winter when the weather permits.
“It may only be 80 percent dry, but that’s 80 percent less energy needed in the dryer.”
Remember, the cost of running a dryer depends on the type of machine you buy.
But on average, Uswitch estimates that a tumble dryer uses roughly 4.5 kWh of energy per cycle.
Every kWh of energy you use costs 14.37p – meaning you’ll cough up roughly 67p per cycle.
For large families who wash three times a week, this could mean spending £104.52 a year drying your clothes.
Another way to reduce the use of the tumble dryer is to give the washing machine an extra spin first to dry it beforehand.
Will Owen, energy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “The longer the cycle on your tumble dryer, the more money it will cost you.
“If your clothes are wet, you’ll have to work a lot longer to dry them, which dramatically increases your energy bill.”
Additionally, by reducing the heating cycle or just giving your tumble dryer a good cleaning, you can lower your bill.
