New Jeans Are Being Criticized Due To Inappropriate Lyrics In Their Debut Album

New Jeans, HYBE’s sub-agency ADOR’s newest K-Pop girl group, has taken the internet by storm with their self-titled debut album, New Jeans. The uproar, however, is not all favorable. Internet users from all over the world were outraged by the inappropriate lyrics of Cookie’s song and reprimanded the agency and the band for sexualizing young people.

The music video for Cookie’s song was released on August 1 and already has more than 2.5 million views. While the title of the song seems harmless and suitable for under-age teenagers, the lyrics appear to be full of sexual allusions.

While the song and video seem benign and unproblematic at first glance, many netizens believe that the term cookie is being used as a sexual metaphor. When Cookie’s lyrics are translated, they become completely inappropriate for smaller artists because they include adult themes and are hypersexualized. The following are some of the double statements in the poem:

“Just looking at my cookie you’ll see.” “You can’t just take a sip with me.”

“You can have it if you want.” If you want it more, let me hear you.”

Upon hearing the lyrics, people online around the world expressed outrage and disdain. Netizens have expressed concern that the style of young K-Pop singers bears an eerie resemblance to the style of secretaries and other professional outfits, leading many to think that it is wrong. Within hours, a post pointing out the problem received hundreds of comments. People were confused as to how adults could consider such a song suitable for a gathering of 14-year-olds.

Such verses, according to netizens, are disturbing and should not be justified at any cost. Most of the criticism has been directed at ADOR’s executive director Min Hee-Jin, who has caused controversy by pushing material with pedophile overtones and harmful themes. Min Hee-social Jin’s media releases and studio photos included sexually charged material with unique pedophile undertones. This raised concerns about her leadership of ADOR’s youth K-Pop girl group, New Jeans, which ranges in age from 14 to 18 years old.

Netizens also expressed concern over the group’s clothing, which they felt was inappropriate for the musicians’ ages. In one of the music videos, the idol wore pants with a picture of a woman in a bikini on a surfboard. Minji, the group’s idol, was spotted wearing a graphic crop top with a nasty expression in another picture on social media. These outfits caused a big storm among netizens who think they are completely inappropriate for young stars. Minji (18), Hani (18), Danielle (17), Haerin (16) and Hyein (14) make up the five-member band New Jeans.
