Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s costumes are more in line with the comic book style
Originally in Marvel comics, Star-Lord’s pre-2014 Guardians of the Galaxy all had the same red and blue uniforms (even Groot). However, the first guardians of the galaxy The film is one of the first major instances of the Marvel Universe having a direct influence on the style and look of future comics, giving each Guardian its own unique look that more or less matches its on-screen counterpart. This is especially true for Star-Lord. protector Costumes have been revised to take on a more rugged look for the Legendary Outlaw. Everything from his clothes, helmet, and weapons were changed to match the version played by Chris Pratt in the live-action film (including much of his character).
Now, the blue and red uniforms are back, making their debut in the final chapter of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. While Groot doesn’t appear to be compelled to wear the uniform, it looks like everyone else is following suit (even Drax and his sensitive nipples). While the Guardians did wear matching Marauder gear in the first film, it was only temporary, fighting alongside the Nova Corps in the Battle of Xandar. By comparison, these new uniforms feel more enduring and meaningful.
Why the Marvel Universe Changed the Guardians’ Costumes
While the idea of returning the Guardians to their comic book roots in the final film is very satisfying, the idea of matching uniforms in the universe likely came from Star-Lord’s desire to be a more legitimate and official team of heroes (rather than being seen as for criminals). It’s a sentiment that’s been expressed in comics as of late, with the Guardians considered the official defenders of the galaxy, all of whom have taken a more tactical approach to the classic red and blue. It also hints at the theme of the entire trailer, which is that the Guardians are a team that sticks together no matter what. As it stands, one could see Star-Lord being inspired by the heroics of Earth’s Avengers. End Game and wanted to follow suit, hence the new suit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
