New Mean Girls Trailer Teases Renée Rapp’s Regina George and the Iconic Winter Talent Show

Mean girls is back.

Almost 20 years after Tina Fey’s original Mean girls premiered in theaters, Fey, 53, is bringing her iconic comedy back to the big screen — this time as a movie musical based on the 2018 Broadway musical of the same name.

The new movie musical stars Angourie Rice as Cady, Renée Rapp as Regina George (reprising her Broadway role), Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Anantika as Karen and Bebe Wood as Gretchen. A brand new trailer released by Paramount on Wednesday for the film teases Cady’s arrival at her new high school and initial clashes with Aaron (Christopher Briney) and Regina, set to Rapp’s song “Not My Fault,” which she recorded with Megan Thee Stallion for the film’s soundtrack record.

Fey first announced that she was adapting Mean girls musical to movie musical in January 2020; the film officially announced its cast in December 2022. In February 2023, Fey further announced that she and Tim Meadows, who played Mrs. Norbury and Principal Duvall in the original film, would reprise their roles.
