New Study Finds the 5 'Coziest' Christmas Getaways — and N.Y.C. (Shockingly) Didn't Make the Top of the List

According to a new study, New York is not considered the “most pleasant” place to take a Christmas vacation.

In BetMGM Casino’s findings, the online platform ranked the “most pleasant cities” for vacations across the United States.

There, it was found that the East Coast destination, known for its lavish and exciting celebrations during the most wonderful time of the year, did not make the top 5.

Instead, North Pole, Alaska, took the top spot, while Park City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; Kennebunkport, Maine and Asheville, NC followed close behind. New York City, meanwhile, ranked sixth overall.

On the other hand, the survey found that Las Vegas, Nev., is the least comfortable city in the US for Christmas vacation.

These are the top US destinations most likely to have a white Christmas, according to travel experts

Used BetMGM Casino study Condé Nast Traveler“Best Places to Spend Christmas in the USA” to select the 19 cities most famous for their “Christmas appeal”.

After collecting data between October 21 and 26, the company then selected six key factors associated with a pleasant Christmas atmosphere – snowfall, availability of accommodation, festive events, places, nature and temperature.

The snowfall marked “an average amount of snow for December that set the scene for a magical atmosphere,” while accommodations highlighted the “amount of cabins and bed and breakfasts still available to book throughout December,” according to BetMGM Casino.

The festive events, the company added, added “a number of enjoyable theater shows and Christmas markets to fill your calendar during December”, the venues indicated “a number of ice rinks, cozy cafes and shopping centers, perfect for searching for gifts or warming up with a hot chocolate,” nature determined “the number of parks for walks in the snow where the crunch of boots just screams Christmas” and the temperature examined “how chilly it is in December, wrapping up in scarves and gloves just adds to that cozy, holiday feeling.”

The cities were then ranked based on their scores, and those with the highest were the best cities for a pleasant Christmas break.
