Team USA swimmer Nic Fink just won three medals at these Olympics, and he’ll be celebrating with diaper changes on the horizon.
The athlete, who is married to Melanie Margalis Fink, said the couple is expecting their first child together while speaking to reporters during a press conference in Paris on August 4. Just before that, Fink won a silver medal in the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay.
Fink, 31, was asked if he and two of his relay teammates — Ryan Murphy and Caeleb Dressel — hope to compete again in Los Angeles in 2028, despite being some of the oldest swimmers on the team and new fathers (Murphy’s wife, Bridget Murphy , is pregnant; Dressel has one child, August Wilder, born in February, with his wife Meghan).

While Murphy held the door open, Fink noted that his baby on the way was getting immediate attention.
“I’m going straight back and getting ready for baby time,” Fink said, joking, “I’m out of the frying pan and into the fire here.”
He is “more focused on” preparing for the baby, which he said is “something even cooler than the Olympics, believe it or not.”
Said Fink, “LA seems so far away and I’ve felt like I’ve been pushing my aging cliff for the last few years. . . . But . . . you never know.”
New dad Dressel, 27, had some joking advice for Fink in response, teasing him: “It’s really easy, don’t worry.”
Margalis, 32, is a former Olympic swimmer but now works as an assistant swimming coach at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where the couple lives. She won gold in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay at Rio 2016. Fink’s day job is for Quanta Utility Engineering Services, Today show reported.

“We’re excited about what’s to come,” he said Today July 29. “As much fun as this experience was, it’s going to be really cool for the rest of the summer and beyond.”
During these games, Fink tied for silver in the men’s 100m breaststroke final. In the 4×100-meter medley, Fink and his teammates – Gretchen Walsh, Murphy and Torri Huske – won gold and set a new world record. He also took home a silver medal in the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay.
