Nick Carter is one of five members of the most influential bands of the 90s, but his greatest achievement is being a father to his three children: son Odin and daughters Saoirse and Pearl.
After marrying his wife Lauren Kitt Carter in 2014, they welcomed their first child, Odin, in 2016. Three years later, Nick and Lauren’s daughter, Saoirse, joined the family. In 2021, the couple announced the birth of Pearl.
The singer, who started making music and touring with the Backstreet Boys as a teenager, hopes his children will have a more relaxed upbringing.
“They could just be kids, enjoy their lives, grow up, go to school, have friends, take them to karate, love T-ball here, whatever it is, just let them be kids and let me be their breadwinner, ” Nick said in the 2022 episode We are a family podcast.

The father of three added that he wants to create a “peaceful and healthy household” with “structure” by focusing on his children’s education.
“Whatever they want to do, as far as their profession, that’s really up to them,” Nick said. “But what I want, I just want school to be my priority.”

Recently, the new documentary series Discovery Discovery Fallen idols: Nick and Aaron Carter examines the ups and downs of his time in the spotlight, including accusations from singer Melissa Schuman, who first accused Nick of rape in 2017 over an alleged incident in 2003.
Nick then denied the allegations saying they had consensual sex. In February 2023, Schuman was involved in a counterclaim filed by Nick against Shannon Ruth, who had sued him two months earlier for alleged sexual assault. Two months later, in April 2023, Schuman sued Nick for sexual assault and battery.
Nick’s attorney, Dale Hayes Jr., denied the claims made in the Fallen idols in a statement to PEOPLE, calling them “outrageous” and noting that Nick’s counterclaim against his accusers is still in court.

Nick and Lauren welcomed their son Odin Reign Carter on April 19, 2016.
The new dad introduced his oldest child to fans with a sweet post on Instagram. “I love how peaceful he is,” Nick wrote in the description.
A few years later, the “Larger Than Life” singer opened up to PEOPLE about how fatherhood has affected his life.
“I’ve always loved family… and now that I have Odin, words can’t explain how happy I am now and how much more empowered I am,” Nick said. “I realize how blessed I am to have him, my wife, to have my group.”
Nick is often open about parenting on social media, including incidents.
“The life of a parent. He broke a tooth a while ago and now we have to operate,” the Backstreet Boys member wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of his son. “Thankfully it’s just his baby tooth. ugh 🤦🏼♂️.”

In August 2022, the father of three shared a look at one of his son’s newest hobbies — horse riding.
“My little boy is growing up so fast,” he wrote on an Instagram picture of Odin hugging a horse. – He’s learning to ride horses, and I literally can’t stand it.
Odin also enjoys playing golf with his dad — a pastime that helped the family recover from the December 2023 death of Nick’s sister, Bobbie Jean Carter.
“I cherish these moments,” Nick wrote on Instagram alongside a video of Odin practicing his swing.

In May 2024, the father and son duo spent time together in the studio. Nick shared his experience on Instagram, posting a video of Odin learning to be a music producer while his dad sings to him.

Nick and Lauren welcomed their daughter Saoirse Reign Carter on October 2, 2019.
The proud dad revealed her name in honor of his wife who had a miscarriage after giving birth to Odin.
“I’ll never forget the moment you asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I didn’t say anything. But deep down I knew what I really wanted,” he wrote on Instagram. “So on January 28th, 2019 when I came out of the bathroom with a positive test I already knew Saoirse was coming back to us.”
The couple’s middle child seems to have picked up his father’s musical genes. The Grammy nominee said his daughter already had some impressive vocal talents at the age of 2, and the child even joined her dad on stage during the Backstreet Boys’ performance at the 2022 Hollywood Bowl.
“My daughter Saoirse, actually, she’s the one who likes to sing,” he continued We are a family. “In the morning when I wake up, make breakfast for the kids and get them ready for school, I’ll be watching the baby monitor and she’ll be the one just singing to herself in the crib.”
Nick listed “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” as Saoirse’s favorite songs.

However, Saoirse isn’t too thrilled to hear her father sing. Nick told PEOPLE in 2022 that his older daughter “doesn’t let me sing to her anymore.”
“I sang to all my children when they were very young,” he explained. “So I would hold them and walk with them and hum and sing to them before they went to bed.”
Despite her reluctance to listen to her dad’s solo songs, Nick still gets to sing with Saoirse, sometimes even on the karaoke machine he bought for the whole family.
“It’s a hit in our house,” Nick wrote on Instagram in 2021, alongside a video of him and Saoirse singing together.

Nick and Lauren welcomed their daughter Pearl Reign Carter on April 21, 2021.
The “Shape of My Heart” artist opened up to PEOPLE later that year about Pearl’s time in the neonatal intensive care unit after her birth.
“Seeing your baby being born and then having to put them in the NICU… it’s the scariest thing. But I think that’s what makes it a blessing,” Nick said at the time. “All my children are a blessing to me and I have a lot of faith in God. I am very happy that she is here in our lives and we will do everything we can to ensure that all our children are protected and loved.”
Calling Pearl “the light of our life,” Nick said he hopes sharing her story will help other families in a similar situation.
“I’m so grateful. It was hard,” he added. “Maybe a little story like what happened with our daughter might help someone else feel a little better if this happened to them. You can pull through. Maybe that’s the silver lining.”

Speaking of We are a family podcast in 2022, the “I Want It That Way” singer talked about adjusting to being a father of three.
“You have three different personalities, three different needs, three different … just human beings who want love and attention,” he explained. “[On] On one side, you have a 10-month-old crying, then you have your daughter on the other side wanting your attention, then your son, all happening at the same time.”
Nick continued: “You learn on the job, you get everything. I love a challenge. I think it’s great. It’s a challenge and… I absolutely love it.”
