Nick Jonas is a proud friend.
The 32-year-old actor spoke with Diversity at the Red Sea Film Festival on December 12 about the different directions his career has taken since he stepped into the limelight as a child. As someone who got his start on the Disney Channel, Jonas credits much of his success to that experience.
“I absolutely look back on [Disney] as a creative school,” he said. “It was also a school, to be honest. I was between 14 and 18, which is my high school age. That Miley’s senior year [Cyrus]Selena [Gomez] and Demi [Lovato]we all came together and you can see, honestly, the length of our careers and the success we’ve all been able to achieve.”

The Jonas Brothers had a play called Jonas on the Disney Channel, as well as starring in Camp Rock films with Lovato. Meanwhile, Lovato had her own show Sonny with a Chance. Gomez was best known for acting on Wizards of Waverly Place and Cyrus had a leading role in Hannah Montana.
Today, Gomez recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Emilia Perez, which Jonas called “a terrible thing.”
“I think it’s a real testament to Disney’s ability to find and nurture talent and understand what makes someone unique while finding a way to make that work within their ecosystem,” he noted.

Despite his fame, the “Jealous” singer said he’s known for his timing Jonas with his brothers Kevin and Joe it didn’t always work out for him. He recalled the time in 2014 when he wanted to audition for a drama series Kingdom, but he was told that “Jonas Brother” was not suitable for the role.
“This was not the first time I had heard such feedback,” he revealed. “There were projects that I went for and the feedback was, ‘There was no way they were going to risk casting you.'”
“It was really disheartening,” he added.

Since then, Jonas has gotten over the hump and continued to have several roles in movies and on television. He also found success as a solo artist after splitting from the band of brothers in 2013 before reuniting in 2019.
In 2025, Jonas returns to Broadway, where he started at the age of seven. She stars opposite Tony-winning actor Adrienne Warren in Robert Brown’s Jason The last five years.
“One of the things I look forward to the most is being in a community of people who share the same passion,” he said. “That’s the beauty of this art form — you really find your people.”

“It comes with a little bit of pressure,” he continued to admit. “But good nerves, the ones where you feel butterflies, are exciting to me. I spent a week in New York working on material with Jason, who is so wonderful to work with and almost surgical about every note, and when you get wrapped up in all the intricacies of his work, it becomes even more fun to play in that sandbox. ”
