Nick Mohammed News

In the upcoming episode of the popular Apple TV+ comedy “Ted Lasso,” where he will likely make his final appearance as Nathan Shelly, Nick Mohammed hopes to introduce another British character to American viewers.

The actor, who has played “Nate the Great” on the Jason Sudekis-led comedy for three seasons, will bring his well-regarded alter ego Mr. Swallow to New York City for a single night only on June 2 at Town Hall. Mohammed is also visiting the city for the first time because of the event.

He said to The Daily News, “I’ve never even been a tourist in New York. “I mean, I almost feel embarrassed to confess that because everyone keeps telling me that I will love New York and I already do when I see it highlighted in films and television shows and have other friends who have visited and just sort of rave about it. I can’t wait, in fact. I can’t wait to arrive there.

The Statue of Liberty and Central Park are on the to-do list for the English actor, but he might not be able to make it to either. His first trip will only last a few days before he must return to London to see his wife and three small children.

David Schwimmer, a friend of Mohammed, will serve as his designated tour guide. The former “Friends” star most recently made an appearance in Mohammed’s British sitcom “Intelligence,” which also starred Mohammed.

He called David Schwimmer, a native of Flushing, Queens, “a comic genius who’s got proper physical comedy bones,” and said it was “completely surreal” to believe they were friends. “Obviously like other people, I grew up watching “Friends” and adored it, and adored him in it for years.”

Mohammed is also no slouch at amusing TV viewers. He starred in a number of British sitcoms before “Ted Lasso” became a streaming success and critical darling, such as “Reggie Perrin,” “Uncle,” and “Stath Lets Flats.”

His role “Mr. Swallow,” which he debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival more than 10 years ago, was inspired by a “totally bonkers” previous teacher who frequently caused him and his classmates to “laugh inadvertently.”

Mohammed stated, “I simply kept playing this role more and more, and it was the one that ended up staying. I used to play several characters, but this was the one that I felt I could have the most fun with and that the audience seemed to connect with the most. From there, it progressed, and I’ve since performed it on the radio, television, in theatre productions, musicals, and a variety of other settings.
