dispute
- In 2018, Philip Fisher, a theatre critic for the British Theatre Guide, reviewed the play The Youth of Miss Brodie and referred to Nicola’s character as an “overweight little girl”. This was not the first time Philip had done this, in fact, a year earlier, he had called Nicola a “fat girl” when his comments had nothing to do with the review. Afterwards, Nicola decided to respond to him and wrote on Twitter:
Hi @BritTheatreGuid, this is the second time your reviewer Philip Fisher has come to a show I am in and while reviewing the show he has also commented on my size. How can you continue to support this? He came to see a show I was in last August called Jess and Joe Forever @traversetheatre and his opening line was “Jess was a fat girl”, my weight had nothing to do with my performance in that show or in The Youth of Miss Brodie. Let me make it clear that from now on he will not be welcome to review any show I attend. I plan to attend many shows. R.I.P.
