Nicole Kidman opens up about the filming of her new erotic thriller.
The Oscar winner, 57, talked about her work in Buzz-About magazine Girl during a Q&A at London West Hollywood in Los Angeles on Friday (October 18), where she was joined by actor Harris Dickinson, 28, and writer-director Halina Reijn after a screening of their film.
When asked about kink in research GirlKidman said that “an enormous amount of trust” was instrumental in creating the dynamic and complexity that exists between her and Dickinson’s characters. “We’d look at each other and say ‘okay,'” she said.
“Of course there were days when I would go in really terrified of a scene or I don’t know how I’m going to pull this off,” added Dickinson, who previously starred in Iron Claw. But “there was never a day that if a scene wasn’t working or we weren’t comfortable or we weren’t getting something, we never felt like time was more important. It was just like, ‘Okay, everybody leave for a second.’ ”
Kidman said that having Reijn at the helm helped her feel comfortable creating Girlin which she portrays a powerful business executive who begins an affair with an intern (Dickinson) at her company while her husband (Antonio Banderas) remains in the dark.

“I’ve always been in search as an actor, I’m always going, where haven’t I been? And what can I explore as a human being? And this is an area I’ve never been in,” she said.
“There’s kind of a cliffhanger where you go, okay, I’m just going to drop everything and explore this with people I trust in a genre that’s already been set, but hopefully we can explore new territory and especially with a woman at the helm.”
Girlwhich explores sexuality and desire through a twisted story about a woman in a position of power that sometimes feels “liberating,” Kidman added.
And, she said, “You have your director at the helm saying, ‘I’m going to protect you. There’s not going to be anything in the movie that you don’t like. You’re going to be fine.’ ”

However, the experience took its toll. Speaking of the movie with Vanity Fair ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August, Kidman explained how the role “went [her] ragged.”
“At some point I thought, I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore, but at the same time I was forced to do it,” she said. “Halina would hold me and I would hold her, because it was very opposed to me.”
“It’s like, ‘God, I’m doing this, and the world is actually going to see it now.’ It’s a very strange feeling,” he said Big little lies said the star. “This is something you do and hide in your home videos. It’s not something the world will usually see.”

During a press conference in Venice that month, Kidman said she never felt exploited while creating Girlintimate sequences.
“That’s what made it so convincing, being in the hands of Halina, because I knew she wouldn’t take advantage of me,” she told reporters. “I mean, however one interprets it, I didn’t feel used. I felt a part of it. It’s a story I wanted to be a part of, that I wanted to tell. And every part of me was committed to it.”
Kidman added of the cast and crew, “We all took tremendous care. We were all very, very gentle with each other and helped each other.”
Girl arrives in theaters on December 25.
