Nigella Lawson admits the current Ozempica craze is “not for me”.
In an interview with Timepublished on May 19, the British chef opened up about why she’s not a fan of the idea of taking Ozempic, an FDA-approved prescription drug for people with type 2 diabetes.
It’s one of the brand names for semaglutide — also known as Wegovy — which works in the brain to affect satiety. Over the past year, it has become very popular for weight loss, both in and out of Hollywood.
“I once read something where someone said, ‘I was on Ozempic and it was the first time I wasn’t thinking about food the whole time,’ and I thought, I can’t imagine anything worse than that,” she told the outlet. “It gives me great pleasure to constantly think about food.”
“You shouldn’t be too judgmental about other people’s medical decisions,” she continued. “I guess they are prescribed [weight-loss injections] by a doctor because they’re pre-diabetic or something, then that’s something [different], but they are not for me. I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to help people not feel like food is the enemy. And I’m always someone who would rather think about what I’m adding to my diet than what I’m taking out.”

Lawson, 64, said it’s a much “healthier” approach when you’re “really present when you’re eating and tasting” rather than “just chucking food in or depriving yourself.”
“For it to stop is not something I would like to encourage in my life or anyone around me,” the author of the cookbook concluded.
Lawson admitted that when it comes to food, she is interested in nothing but pleasure.
“I’m at an age where, even with the best will in the world, I’ve eaten more than I’ll eat for the rest of my life,” she said. “So I really want everything I eat to make me happy.”
Besides Lawson, other celebrities have also spoken out against taking weight loss injections like Ozempic when it’s not medically necessary, including Jillian Michaels, Jackie Goldschneider, Raven-Symoné, Lala Kent, Danielle Cabral and more.
