Nina Dobrev and Shaun White Were 'Glowing' After Proposal: 'They Are the Perfect Fit Together,' Says Source (Exclusive)

Shaun White struck for gold when he asked Nina Dobrev to marry him — and she said “yes!”

According to the source, White has been talking with his “inner circle about the proposal” for months.

“Their friends knew it was coming and they’re all very happy for them,” says the source. “After the proposal, they called and texted their friends saying, ‘It doesn’t get any better than this,’ and they were just beaming.”

The insider believes Dobrev and White’s upcoming wedding will be a “fun party.”

“They’re a perfect match for each other – they’re fun and adventurous, but also very close,” adds the source.

White proposed with a 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring at the Golden Swan restaurant in New York, according to Vogue. To pull off the surprise, White told his publicist to send Dobr a fake CFDA invitation and Vogue dinner with the magazine’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

“I knew she was nervous because when she’s nervous she can make jokes,” White said Vogue when Dobrev arrived. “She says, ‘Well, wait, Anna’s not here?’”

After Dobrev accepted White’s proposal, friends joined the couple for champagne and caviar. Next, Dobrev and White ordered Shake Shack and Golden Swan Dumplings to end the evening.

The actress told Vogue that the three-time gold Olympian said “all good things” during the proposal, and she doesn’t want to take off the ring “anymore” after hiding the engagement for several days.

Dobrev and White met in 2019 while attending an event in Florida hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins, where they both gave presentations. They officially announced their relationship on Instagram in April 2020.

“During the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special,” White told PEOPLE in January 2022.

Star of Mason told PEOPLE in 10 earlier this year that she and White “go out on dates every week” and take turns doing the planning to “keep things kind of exciting and interesting.”

When Dobrev shared the news of her engagement to White on Instagram on Oct. 30, she captioned the photo, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiance 💍♾️”
