Nirav Modi, 53, was born in Antwerp, Belgium, Europe. He currently lives in Mumbai, India. He has had a keen interest in design since he was a child. He runs a diamond jewelry business and sells his products in different countries. He has also launched his brand Nirav Modi in places like Mumbai, Delhi, Hong Kong, New York, Macau and London.

After graduation, Nirav Modi began studying at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, but he dropped out and went to India to join his uncle Mehul Choksi’s company and work there for about ten years. In 1999, he founded the diamond jewelry company Firestar Diamond International. After some time, he designed the earrings at the request of his friend. He then channeled his passion into the brand and named it Nirav Modi.
He designed many unique patterns, such as Riviere of Perfection, Golconda Lotus Necklace, etc., making his brand popular. His Golconda lotus necklace was sold for Rs 100 at Christy Auction in Hong Kong in 2010. In 2012, his work “Riviere of Perfection” was sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong for Rs 1,629 crore.

In February 2018, Punjab National Bank (PNB) filed a complaint against him, accusing him of defrauding the bank of about Rs 100. 11. 4 billion rupees. His wife Ami Modi, uncle Mehul Choksi and brother Nishal Modi were also reportedly involved in the scam. The bank also alleged that they were fraudulently involved in issuance of bank guarantees or letters of undertaking (LoU) at the bank’s medium corporate branch at Brady House, Mumbai. The Law Enforcement Directorate is handling the case. His passport was also revoked by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for four weeks.
