Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner will host the second season of Secret Celebrity Renovation, where she’ll help famous people make a grand gesture by giving a surprise makeover to the homes of the individuals who helped them climb the ladder of success. Turner is a reporter for CNN Entertainment and New Day based in New York. She joined the network in 2011, became a reporter for Entertainment Tonight in 2014, and was named co-host in 2021. To date, the 46-year-old journalist and television host has won four Emmy Awards.
This year, the host of the show Secret Celebrity Renovation co-hosted the 49th Emmy Awards with Kevin Fraizer. Season 2 of Secret Celebrity Renovation will premiere on CBS on July 22, 2022 at 8:00 PM ET. Turner will be joined this season by interior designer Sabrina Soto and Survivor star Rob Mariano.
Nischella Turner’s biography dives into her early life, profession, achievements and more.
Turner was born in Columbia, Missouri on February 11, 1975, and was raised by her mother and extended family. She attended Rock Bridge Elementary and High School. After dropping out of the University of Kentucky in her freshman year to pursue a career in journalism, she graduated from the University of Missouri in 1998 with a degree in journalism and news media. Turner’s first job was as a fill-in anchor and reporter for WEHT, an ABC station in Indiana.
Career
She began working as a daytime reporter and weekend anchor for WVUE-TV FOX8 in New Orleans in 2002. Nischelle moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and began working for KTTV. She worked at KTTV as a reporter on Good Day LA and as a host on Good Day LA Weekend. Turner returned to New Orleans after Good Day LA to cover Hurricane Katrina, which earned her more journalism accolades. In 2007, the Secret Celebrity Renovation host began working as a sideline reporter for Fox NFL Sunday, covering baseball and basketball.
After two years at Fox, in 2009 she took over as host of Extra at Essence, an online entertainment program focused on Hollywood’s biggest stars. Her status as a host gave her several opportunities in the entertainment industry, which finally pushed her to the red carpet. The president of the CNN network, Jeff Zucker, was so pleased with Nischella Turner’s work that he offered her a full-time job as an entertainment reporter, and even granted Turner her own program in New York in 2011.
During her tenure at CNN, she became famous for covering the death of Whitney Houston. When Jeff Zucker recommended her to work on both programs, when Entertainment Tonight offered her a position on the opposite side of the nation in 2014, she accepted and began working full-time for Entertainment Tonight while also contributing to CNN’s entertainment programs.
Turner is the first woman of color to be named co-host of Entertainment Tonight in the show’s 40-year history. This is also the first time that ET has been entirely anchored by individuals of color, such as Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier. Turner currently co-hosts a podcast with Shaquille O’Neal called The Big Podcast. She aggressively promotes representation in the business so that young people, especially people of color, can see someone who looks like them on screen.
