But those watching at home noticed Martin’s face and were quick to comment.

Another said: “Martin Lewis is foooo.”

While a third added: “Martin Lewis is furious.”

“Martin Lewis didn’t look too happy,” said a fourth.

As well as The Martin Lewis Money Show, Stacey beat Clarkson’s Farm, Gogglebox and The Yorkshire Vet in the factual entertainment category.

The star, who was joined by her son Zach, 18, thanked the families who opened their homes and hearts to her for the show as she accepted the award.

She told the crowd: “It’s the hardest show ever to do and they work so hard. My amazing co-hosts.

“I’m so grateful to be able to do a show like this, I want to thank the families who let us into their homes. If it weren’t for the families who opened their hearts to us, there wouldn’t be Sredi živna živa.”

The star then thanks her husband Joe Swash and her five children.

Speaking in the winners’ room afterwards, Stacey said: “I wasn’t ready, I didn’t know where to go – no one told us! We were in total chaos, I don’t know what I said in the speech! I can only apologize!

“It means the absolute world – I don’t think anyone can understand how hard people work to make Sort Your Life happen.

“It’s a huge performance and we did so much in those seven days. It means absolutely everything we get to do something we absolutely love and to be given the opportunity to do more of it.

“It’s not just the four of us. There is a huge team working to the bone.

“I learned that I like having a job to make people feel good. It is the greatest privilege, but I do not host it myself. My colleagues are like family to me.”

The NTA was not a big surprise, says our TV expert

COMMENTARY OF GENDER MCPHEE

The only surprise at tonight’s National Television Awards was that there were virtually no surprises.

Ant and Dec took home the Presenter Award for the millionth time, the Strictly bagged Talent Show gong, and I’m a Celebrity triumphed in the Entertainment category.

Kate Garraway winning the original documentary award for Derek’s Story was thoroughly deserved, but not a total shock as she did the same two years ago with Care for Derek.

There were a few curveballs. Emmerdale beating soap opera Goliath EastEnders and Corrie was unexpected, especially as both rivals have boasted big stories recently.

And while there was no doubting how touching Mr BatesVs The Post Office was for viewers this year, it was stunning to see them win three awards.

Does the general lack of surprise diminish the excitement of the NTA? Not at all. It remains one of the few awards shows that actually measures what the majority of Brits actually watch.

We live in a confusing world where scandals often rock shows, in an age where streaming means a diminished shared experience and ratings are hard to decipher.

However, year after year, the NTA voters leave us in no doubt as to which series they adore, which they dislike and which celebrities they are willing to support.

Look at how quickly NTA voters embraced relatively new series like The Traitors, Bridgerton and The 1% Club.

They are not interested in PR tricks and promotion, high-profile actors and writers praised by their lover friends, and certainly cannot stand being dictated to what they should watch.

They tell us all loud and clear, every year, who they think is the best – and woe to any broadcaster who ignores them.
