She said Liam told her: “I was in a boy band – that’s why I’m such a bitch.”

Rebecca, not her real name, was also staying at the CasaSur Hotel in Argentina when Liam, 31, fell to his death on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old said she was left “shaken” by what happened, as she saw Liam just moments before he died.

She told the Mail that “there was something a bit desperate” about Liam’s behaviour.

Rebecca met Liam in a hotel lobby in Buenos Aires on Wednesday afternoon and photographed him at 4.26pm local time (8.26pm UK time).

Police were called to the hotel at 5.04pm after Liam fell, and he was pronounced dead after the ambulance arrived at 5.11pm.

Rebecca, from Washington DC, said hotel staff were “a bit on edge” because Liam hadn’t checked out of his suite as he was supposed to that morning.

She said that when she entered the lobby, Liam was waiting by the elevator and “wanted someone to recognize him.”

Rebecca added: “When the lift arrived, he suddenly said to us without any prompting, ‘Yes, I’m Liam!’ really stretching him and then he said ‘Ok come on come in the lift with me I love cuddling’.

I decided against it and waited for the next one, but some other girls came in with him and halfway through he started saying ‘Oh, you’re American, I live in West Palm Beach’.

“I know Americans. You guys are fucking crazy! You guys are fucking dangerous!

“And then he grabbed the girl who I think was with him and started to fake choke her, just a little, but the others thought it was really disturbing.”

It comes as…

Rebecca said when she returned to the lobby about ten minutes later, Liam was back in the space and lying on the sofa with his laptop.

He claims he was “upset” by an email on his screen and yelled “s**t this mate” before smashing the laptop on the ground.

Rebecca added: “Everyone, especially the staff, were really shocked. It’s a top hotel and his behavior was so inappropriate – people were just relaxing.

“I approached, asked ‘are you okay?’ But he just grunted, then said, “I used to be in a boy band.”

Rebecca said the hotel staff were “going crazy and watching him very nervously”.

He also claims that someone “from his entourage” apologized on Liam’s behalf and said: “I’m sorry, he gets so high sometimes.”

Moments later, Rebecca said Liam came back into the lobby again and “just tripped and fell on his face.”

She said staff then helped him back into the elevator.

Brett Watson, another guest at the hotel, said he and others saw Liam “causing a commotion” minutes before he died.

Watson, from Chicago, told ITV Liam appeared to have “passed out” in the lobby before he “had to be physically carried back into the room”.

A 911 call from hotel staff on Wednesday revealed they needed “emergency” police officers to help with a guest who was “behaving erratically.”

Recordings of the front desk manager’s 911 calls show them reporting “a guest destroying everything in his room.”

In another call for help, the receptionist said: “We urgently need to send someone because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger.

“They must be in the room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little worried that he’s going to do something, that he’s going to risk his life.”

Liam – who was in Buenos Aires on holiday after going on tour with friend Niall Horan – was found dead in the hotel’s inner courtyard just after 5pm local time (9pm UK time).

His death was confirmed as soon as the emergency team arrived.

Officers found “what appeared to be narcotics, alcohol, destroyed items and furniture” in his room at the CasaSur hotel in Palermo.

Photos released by Argentine media show white powder, burnt aluminum foil and a broken TV screen in his apartment.

Forensic teams reported that a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a mobile phone were recovered from the courtyard of the building where Liam’s body was found.

But police are yet to confirm what substances were found in the room and will be testing them soon.

The singer has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past.

Officials said “everything indicates” he was alone when he died and could have been partially or fully unconscious when he fell.

A full toxicology report is still pending and could take weeks to become public.
