Oppenheimer it has now crossed the $900 million mark at the global box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2023.
Christopher Nolan’s World War II biopic about theoretical physicist and Manhattan Project scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer earned an additional $12.8 million over the weekend, including $10.7 million in foreign markets and $2.1 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.
“For Oppenheimer to cross the $900 million global mark after just nine weeks in theaters is a remarkable achievement, said Comscore senior analyst Paul Dergarabedian, per Diversity. “It shows how an incredible film with a superstar director and an all-star cast can turn a three-hour historical epic into a blockbuster mainstream hit.”

As of Monday, the film has grossed $912,701,115, surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with Barbie and Super Mario Bros. Movie at No. 1 and No. 2, both grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
Among the films released in North America this year, Oppenheimer is in fifth place in terms of gross earnings. The first two places — occupy Barbie and Super Mario Bros. — they follow Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Guardians trilogy.
“Those last few miles of any theater ride are the hardest,” added Dergarabedian, po Diversity. “But at this point, […] it’s a total winner regardless of the final outcome.”

The fan coined phenomenon “Barbenheimer” was born on July 21 when Oppenheimer and Barbie in theaters with the top single weekend at the box office this year, according to Box Office Mojo. Oppenheimer grossed $82.4 million and led AMC Theaters — the nation’s largest movie theater chain — to the highest weekly ticket revenue in company history.
Not adjusted for inflation, the film is Nolan’s highest-grossing global release since 2012. The Dark Knight Riseswhich exceeded the global threshold of one billion dollars.

The film stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife Kitty. Other famous actors: Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie, Josh Peck and Jack Quaid, among others.
