Original Ghostbusters Stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson Join Paul Rudd at Frozen Empire Premiere

Ghostbusters are back!

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts were on hand to celebrate the film’s New York premiere Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on Thursday.

Each of the four actors starred in the original 1984 comedy and its 1989 sequel, alongside the late Harold Ramis, who died in 2014 at age 69, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.

Murray, Aykroyd and Hudson posed for a sweet photo with Paul Rudd and some of the others Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire stars, including Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard. Rudd, Coon, Grace and Wolfhard joined the franchise in 2021 Afterlifewhich served as a sequel to the two original 80s films.

In another fun photo, Aykroyd and Hudson posed with Potts, who was wearing a black suit and a pink purse. Rudd also posed with Murray on the red carpet.

The new films in the series focus on the characters played by Coon, 43, Grace, 17, and Wolfhard, 21, who are the daughters and grandchildren of Ramis’ character Egon Spengler. Rudd, 54, plays a science teacher named Gary who is a fan of Ghostbusters in the new films.

Aykroyd, Murray, Potts and Hudson all made small appearances Afterlife and come back with bigger stakes Frozen Empire, which brings the series and Ghostbusters back to New York. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim also appear in the new film.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson Talk Reunion for Ghostbusters: Afterlife: It Was ‘The Right Time’

The official synopsis for the upcoming film reads that the Spengler family reunites “with the original Ghostbusters, who have developed a super-secret research lab to take ghostbusting to the next level,” in Frozen Empire.

“But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a deadly chill on the city, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from another Ice Age,” reads the synopsis.

The new film was directed by Gil Kenan (2006 House of monsters), who co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Reitman. Reitman, 46, is the son of the late Ivan Reitman, who directed the original Ghost busters movies. Ivan died at the age of 75 in February 2022.
