Pamela Anderson Felt ‘Exploited’ During Season 1 of Pamela’s Garden of Eden: ‘I’m Taking Back My Power’ (Exclusive)

Pamela Anderson is excited to return to television for the second season of the series Pamela’s Garden of Eden — especially because this time it was a much more positive experience and she was in control of the direction.

“The first season I was a mess,” Anderson, 56, admits to PEOPLE of the series, which is now streaming on Hulu. “It wasn’t my favorite time in my life. I was in survival mode when I was writing my memoirs [Love, Pamela]documentary [Pamela: A Love Story] was being made, and I was an open wound when the shot was fired. I just wasn’t that happy with it.”

“The second season is about redemption, authenticity, truth and self-acceptance,” she adds. “I’m taking my power back, instead of giving it up. I took control of the show and figured out a way to keep my vision and make it a positive experience. I kept it real.”

Pamela Anderson reflects on her movement without makeup: ‘Do we even know what a face looks like anymore’

Reflecting on her mindset during Season 1, Anderson says, “I used to think it was a little HGTV Canada show and it was just going to be about sustainable design. Unfortunately, I was wrong, and again I felt a little bit taken advantage of.”

She continues: “I let other people make decisions. I had no idea they were going to use old photos or ex-husbands or anything from my celebrity life. It’s always shocking that that part of me even seemed interesting, when I felt at my weakest and my the worst. Anyway, that was then and this is now.”

The series follows the actress and author as she restores her grandmother’s waterfront property on Vancouver Island, Canada, which she bought decades ago. For season two, she’s mixing it up by redesigning a Los Angeles home with her two sons, Brandon, 28, and Dylan, 25.

“We got into our own rhythm,” she says of the shoot. “The boys are now much more a part of creating family assets, which was my dream. I wanted to include them without consuming them. We were also renovating their new house in LA while we had to wait for the endless permit and restrictions process that comes with living on leads.”

She notes that it doesn’t bother her that the permits last forever: “All decisions have to be taken seriously when you live in the rainforest, as building anything has an impact on the environment. I just want to put cabins where my grandmother had hers and keep the rest of the property simple and beautiful… gently , and not excessively.”

While Anderson says she’s learned some hard lessons about home renovations throughout this process, she’s also learned to fully trust herself and her vision for the space, which includes a huge vegetable garden where she grows her own food for her plant-based diet.

“I’ve learned not to rush things, to focus on the gardens while my sons figure out the buildings,” she says. “I’m in a happy place, surrounded by flowers, trees and dogs…”
