Pamela Anderson Was ‘Getting Ready My Whole Life’ for Last Showgirl Role: ‘I Have Nothing to Lose’

Pamela Anderson has the role of a lifetime in her new movie The last showgirl.

“I think I’ve been preparing for this role my whole life,” Anderson said during a post-screening question-and-answer session following the world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 6.

She joked that it was the first time she had been given a script that was “coherent” and she realized she was “the only one who could do it”.

“I’ve never felt so strongly about something,” Anderson continued. “And after that I thought, ‘You know what, I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m just going to do it, just let it be.’ ”

The Gio Coppola-directed film marks Anderson’s first film role since 2022 and also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka and Billie Lourd.

The last showgirl follows an experienced entertainer in her fifties whose show abruptly closes after 30 years of running. She begins to struggle with what the future holds for her, all the while trying to mend her relationship with her daughter.

“I’ve always wanted to make a movie in Vegas,” Coppola, 37, said Deadline. “I am so proud of our cast and crew, especially Pamela. I can’t wait to share her bold and heartfelt performance!”

“I think she’s a transcendent creature,” Curtis, 65, told PEOPLE exclusively at his commentator’s premiere. “I think she is so smart and deeply spiritual and soulful. And beautiful!”

“I love the way he walks through the BS of show business and says, ‘I don’t need to play your game,'” added Curtis. “And that’s why I respect her so deeply.”

Anderson, 57, was recently the subject of her producer son Brandon Lee’s documentary 2023. Pamela, a love story. The Netflix documentary was nominated for two Emmy Awards, including Best Documentary or Nonfiction Film and Best Documentary Music Composition. She also appeared on Broadway in 2023 in the long-running film Chicago musical.

After The last showgirlAnderson is expected to appear in the next A naked gun film, which reboots the franchise starring Liam Neeson.
