In her new campaign for Smashbox Cosmetics, titled “Isn’t It Iconic?” the Baywatch star, 56, is featured in content for her famous Original Photo Finish Primer rocking the tight bows and smoky eyes she was known for in the ’90s.

The author and activist, who has recently been making headlines for being makeup-free, shared a video on Instagram with a meaningful message about makeup.

“Makeup is a fun extension of who we are, but it’s not all we are…” Anderson began her note.

Anderson added that she and brand founder Davis Factor go back a long way, so when she was invited to participate “a few months ago,” she says she was “honored” to “wink back in time.”

Anderson concludes her message, “The best of all beauty secrets … for anyone, at any age … is a smile.”

Every time Pamela Anderson was without makeup

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Anderson explained to Smashbox why she decided to re-embrace that era.

“The beauty industry didn’t look at me in the ’90s. But now that the ’90s are popular, I’m just going to embrace it. I’m going to be happy about it,” Anderson said.

She also explained that she doesn’t make big statements when she goes out without makeup. “I’m not trying to say I’m a natural beauty guru [by going makeup-free]. I’m just experimenting.”

Anderson, who praised the primer for being vegan and cruelty-free, said she also liked the idea of being featured in the campaign because the product’s role is to separate a person’s skin from makeup.

“I’m thinking about how to protect my skin and how to still use makeup as an extension and expression,” Anderson said.

As for the ’90s look she became famous for, and which has inspired countless others, Anderson said she wasn’t really trying to set any trends.

“I was just having a good time and trying to juggle the beach, babies and rock stars,” she said, noting that she thinks she had low self-esteem at the time.

But Anderson doesn’t wear make-up more often now because she seems more true to her lifestyle and herself.

“If you don’t rely on other people’s approval, I think you can have a much more fairytale life,” she said.
