I went through four rounds of auditions. I don’t know that 2,000 people auditioned. At the time, Black Priests was making headlines for auditioning new actresses who were willing to shave their heads. “Are they really going to shave my head?” I thought, but in the second round, they asked us to wear wigs, and I realized that they actually wanted us to do that. When I put on the wig, the people there complimented me, “You look so good in it,” and I was stunned. I’m not a standout looker, and I could have easily blended in with the crowd with long hair. But the director who saw me in the second round of auditions said, “This girl has a unique temperament.” I think the short wig changed my destiny in the audition process.”
