A partially blind dog has found his furry home after being abandoned twice.
Back in November, Minnesota-based Ruff Start Rescue shared a Facebook post saying they found an 8-year-old dog, named Brutus, “in an area known for abandoned animals.”
Detailing that Brutus “was a skeleton wrapped in leaves to keep warm,” the organization rescued the pup and nursed him back to health.
Then, earlier this month, Ruff Start Rescue announced in the following social media post that Brutus was adopted.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, Brutus’ owner, Tony, explained why the pup was a perfect fit for him.
“I watched dogs for about a year after my last dog died of cancer in 2021. I met a couple of pups but didn’t feel a strong connection. Then in February I came across Brutus’ site and he just melted my heart with those eyes,” he said. is.
“But what really made me want to adopt him was that he had impaired vision. My last dog, Stella Blue, was diagnosed with progressive retinal atrophy and gradually lost her sight, eventually going completely blind in the last two years of her life,” Tony continued. “Reading that Brutus also had vision problems just added to the package.”
He added: “I love him for it, not in spite of it. I feel like it’s another obstacle that he’s proven to be able to overcome and show his tremendous resilience.”

According to Tony, Brutus has since adapted to his new home and said the change “couldn’t have gone better”.
“He settled in nicely, learned the layout of my apartment in about an hour and a half, and fit nicely into our routine during the work week,” he explained of Brutus. “He’s definitely the neediest dog I’ve ever met, but that’s nothing against him.”
“He’s the sweetest and most loving dog. He just wants attention and I feel like he didn’t get the love he deserved before he was rescued and then adopted,” Tony continued.
“He’s my shadow affectionately called goofy. He’ll either put his paws on my lap or crawl away whenever he feels he has the chance, and that’s whenever he deems it necessary – a literal lap dog,” added the proud pet owner.

Looking ahead, Tony, who works as a school counselor, wants Brutus to serve as a therapy dog for his students.
“He’s got the demeanor and the gentleness, but we have a lot of work to do with walking on a leash and not following every scent trail he picks up,” Tony joked about Brutus.
Reflecting on welcoming Brutus into his family after previously losing a pet, Tony said: “I never expected to bond or fall in love with a dog so quickly, let alone after the death of Stella Blue, but he made it so easy .”
“I’m so amazed that despite the turmoil he’s been through in his life, he’s still so trusting and loving. He deserves all the booty he’s getting and I’m committed to making the second half of his life as good as it can possibly be,” he added. is Tony.
“I feel so incredibly lucky to have found him and I’m so grateful to everyone at Ruff Start who has worked with me over the past few years, but most importantly, for all the love and care they put into Brutus and making it possible for him to have a second chance.”
