Patrick Mahomes Says Celebrity Hasn’t Changed Teammate Travis Kelce: ‘He’s Just Been Himself the Whole Time’

Patrick Mahomes says Travis Kelce is a friend he’s known forever.

Mahomes, 28, told reporters Wednesday that Kelce, 34, hasn’t let the attention or fame get to his head.

“Travis has always been Travis,” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said of his teammate, according to NBC Sports. “He’s still Travis Kelce.”

“He will still walk around the stadium and treat every person as if they were his best friend. And he will be like that in the locker room every day.”

Despite Kelce’s new romance with pop star Taylor Swift, his recent Saturday night live visiting in March 2023and cameo in October, Mahomes explained that the tight end “was himself the whole time.”

The two-time Super Bowl MVP told reporters he was especially happy for his teammate when he was the host SNL. “It was really, really cool,” Mahomes said. “It was his dream.”

Kelce was a fan of the variety show and had been quoting skits from the show in the locker room “for years,” Mahomes said, adding that Kelce told him he’d been watching the skits for a while.

“He’s been telling me those since before I was even born,” Mahomes told reporters. “I thought, ‘Trav, I’m not your age, I don’t even know who that is’.”

Mahomes then suggested the possibility that Kelce might “do more of those things after he’s done playing football.”

Mahomes previously praised Swift, 34, and her relationship with Kelce. In an interview with CBS Morningrevealed that when Swift and Kelce first started dating, “everyone kept their distance” and “just let loose [Kelce] do what he did.”

“Then he started bringing Taylor around and realized what a cool person he was, and he was, so there were a few jokes for us here and there at the beginning,” Mahomes admitted.

But now, “She’s just part of the Chiefs Kingdom,” he said. – She is also part of the team.

“She’s at the top of her game, and to see her drive and become that — Man, it’s really cool to hear about it and see it, and now I’m seeing it firsthand through Brittany’s and Travis’ eyes,” Mahomes added.

Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs take on the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game on Sunday at 3:00 PM ET on CBS.
