Cecil Dormand, his English teacher, nurtured his acting talent and persuaded him to act in Shakespeare’s plays. Acting became his passion when he was 12 years old, and he started performing in local drama groups. He worked for the “Mirfield & District Reporter” as a junior reporter and obituary writer. However, he quit his job when a newspaper editor asked him to choose between writing and acting. He then worked as a furniture salesman for a year to save money for drama school.
