Patrick Stewart's 2 Children: All About Daniel and Sophie

Patrick Stewart is the proud father of two children – Daniel Stewart and Sophie Stewart.

The Star Trek the actor welcomed his children with his first wife, Sheila Falconer, whom he married in 1966. The couple separated in 1990, and Patrick was married twice, first to Wendy Neuss from 2000 to 2003, and then to his current wife, Sunny Ozell, whose wedding took place in 2013.

Like his father, Daniel is also an actor. He lives in England, has acted in plays on both sides of the pond and worked with Patrick on three projects: the 1993 thriller Death train2015 Starz sitcom Blunt Talk and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

“I think it’s a great thing that we’re both in the same profession. He has brought so much to both of our lives that we can share and enjoy talking about. That’s great,” Patrick said USA Today in 2015.

Patrick and Falconer welcomed Daniel on October 20, 1967.

“I loved Daniel when he was little, and when he was a baby, I loved holding him. It was fantastic,” Patrick told PEOPLE of his firstborn’s childhood.

Daniel grew up in the world of theater — his father is an actor, and his mother is a dancer and choreographer. He said Grit podcast in 2021 that “his parents’ dinner parties are, now, a who’s who of British theatrical aristocracy.”

In 2012, he spoke with the UK Metro newspaper and said his dad “was very good at exposing his kids to the world of art,” playing classical music for them and making sure the books he wanted them to read were available at home.

This extended to rock music as well, as Patrick gave his son Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here to listen to instead of the first record Daniel bought the day before, Sham 69’s Children are united.

Daniel attended a country school outside Stratford-upon-Avon, England, where his father worked at The Shakespeare Theater Company, and then The Latymer School in west London, which had a “thespian bent”, he said Metro. Patrick said The Independent in 2009 that he was “horrified” when Daniel said he wanted to act, but admitted there was some guilt about it, explaining: “I could have been a better parent when my kids were young. I was just obsessed with my work and everything else took second place.”

Daniel appeared in three projects with his famous father: the 1993 thriller Death train2015 Starz sitcom Blunt Talk and Star Trek: The Next Generation. In the latter, which aired in 1992, Daniel played Batai, the son of Patrick’s character, in the penultimate episode of season 5, “The Inner Light”.

They also attended red carpet events together, including the 1999 film premiere The talented Mr. Ripley in Los Angeles, the 2004 Tony Awards and opening night after party Life in the theater in New York in 2010.

He is an actor and co-host Foxhole Companiona podcast exploring the cinematic history of World War II, with Simon Rance. On his X (formerly Twitter) profile, he describes himself as a “Leeds United fan” and a “constantly intolerant simpleton”.

Daniel has been married to actress Mary Stillwaggon Stewart since July 1999. They have two children, a daughter and a son.

Patrick and Falconer’s daughter, Sophie Alexandra Stewart, was born in 1972.

“When my daughter was born, it happened to be at a time when my business was slowing down,” Patrick told PEOPLE. “For the first two years of her life, I was very much a carer because her mother was a great dancer and appeared in musicals. I took over mum and dad’s work and I loved it. It was wonderful.”

Sophie leads a more private life than her parents and brother, but has made several red carpet appearances over the years. She joined her dad, as well as Daniel and Patrick’s then-girlfriend Neuss, at the 44th Annual Drama Desk Awards in New York in 1999, and was her dad’s companion at the film’s 2003 premiere. 2 Fast 2 Fierce and the 2009 Laurence Olivier Awards, both in London. She and her husband Wayne also came to the premiere of the film Star Trek: Nemesis in London in 2002.

Sophie and Daniel were the ones encouraging and “teasing” Patrick about his initial speech Star Trek audition, saying that after he got the part, he thought “they were pretty proud that the dad was Captain Jean-Luc Picard.”

“They thought it was hysterical that I even auditioned,” the famous actor told PEOPLE in 2022. “They said, ‘Dad, we watched [the original] every night!’ I said, ‘Guys wearing colored shirts?’ That was all I knew about it.”

Sophie has two children, a son and a daughter.
