Gladiator II star Paul Mescal will play Beatles frontman Paul McCartney, according to Ridley Scott.
During the conversation with director Christopher Nolan that followed a Gladiator II screening held at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on December 10, Scott confirmed that his next feature will be a thriller titled Dog stars. But when Nolan asked if Mescal would star in the film, Scott confirmed that was once the plan, but that Mescal’s busy schedule would interfere with the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporterthen he dropped it and told Nolan that “Paul’s actually settled, he’s going to play the Beatles next. So I might have to let him go.”
Scott is referring to a quartet of Beatles biopics to be directed by Sam Mendes for Sony Pictures. Each film will focus on an individual member of the Fab Four – McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – and the stories will be told through the perspective of each band member while intertwining the interconnected stories of the band’s history.

Sam Mendes is making four separate Beatles films about John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr
Although the studio has not officially announced the casting, it has been rumored for some time that Mescal is the best choice for McCartney.
“It would be an amazing story to relate to,” Mescal said Party tonight when pressed by rumours. “Having Sam Mendes attached to direct would truly be a dream come true.”
This is not even the first big failure at the election. Last month, Beatles percussionist Starr said Party tonight that Saltburn star Barry Keoghan was to play him. “I think it’s great,” he told the publication when asked about his reaction to Keoghan’s rumored casting. “I believe he’s in a drumming class somewhere, and hopefully not too much.”

All four films are expected to be released worldwide in 2027, with a press release saying the project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles granted the rights to their life stories and music for a feature film.
“I’m honored to tell the story of the greatest rock band of all time and excited to challenge the notion of what makes going to the movies,” Mendes said in a statement related to the project.
“We intend this to be a uniquely thrilling and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives, telling one story about the most iconic band of all time,” added Pippa Harris, Mendes’ producing partner at Neal Street. in the statement. “To have the blessing of the Beatles and Apple Corps for this is a huge privilege.”
