Paula McGlynn is a Canadian actress, writer and director living in Mumbai. She is the CEO and founding director of creative video production service Gulbadan Talkies Pvt. Ltd. and Marathi entertainment company Bharatiya Digital Party (BhaDiPa). She is known for co-directing the Marathi web series Shanti Kranti (2021), Pandu (2019) and Once a Year (2019).

She graduated from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). In May 2010, Paula McGlynn began working as a Master of Ceremonies for the North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission (NVRC); she has worked with the NVRC for 3 years. At the same time, she began working as a sound engineer at Soundswrite in North Vancouver, where she used ProTools to record voiceovers and perform basic track editing and cleanup.

At 22, after completing a four-year degree, she landed an internship in India. Fees were paid and the grant came directly from the Government of Canada. She moved to India from Canada on May 26, 2012. Initially, she lived in Chennai, where she wrote a thesis on the Indian film industry. The research involved interviews with fraternity stars. She met Anurag Kashyap and Sriram Raghavan at a film appreciation seminar organized by IIT Madras. The highlights of McGlynn’s internship were her placements in Mumbai and Pune. It was here that she was introduced to regional cinema. About two and a half months later, she returned to Canada, but again traveled to India on a different assignment. This time, she was supposed to promote collaboration between the Canadian and Indian film industries. The aim is to initiate a co-production agreement between the two countries. She set out again for Canada. However, McGlynn’s third trip to India changed the trajectory of her career. She has been roped in to assist in a Marathi romance drama called CRD. The casting director and the director’s first assistant were supposed to pick her up from Dadar TT as they were going to Pune. There she met Sarang Sathaye and Anusha Nandakumar. On the way to Pune, they talked about their shared dream of building something around Indian cinema. In 2014, about seven months after they first met, they launched Gulbadan Talkies, a creative video production services boutique based in Mumbai, India.
At first, they did odd jobs, such as recording weddings or organizing events. Later, services also included the production of TV and digital advertising, brand videos, vox pop and music videos, and event management. Gulbadan Talkies produces content for brands like ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever. It also produced a Fisher Price TV commercial starring Shruti Seth. The trio received the gold medal while traveling to Mumbai to attend a conference on the booming Indian digital sector. At the event, attendees discussed the transformation of Marathi cinema, prompting the trio to consider venturing into Marathi content creation. In April 2016, McGlynn co-founded Marathi entertainment company BhaDiPa with Sarang Sathaye and Anusha Nandakumar.
BhaDiPa is one of the pioneers of Marathi digital content, popular for the popular Marathi satirical talk show Casting Couch with Amey and Nipun (2016) hosted by Amey Wagh and Nipun Dharmadhikari. The show has a total of 7 episodes and has celebrity guests including Sai Tamhankar, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sakhi Gokhale, Pooja Thombre, Swanandi Tikekar, Priya Bapat and Radhika Apte. Within a month, they had 25,000 subscribers. They also released the song “Maharashtra Desha” on Maharashtra Day 2016, sung by Mithila Palkar and Gandhaar and directed by Sarang Sathaye. The leading Marathi digital content brand produces content ranging from comedy, travel, music and political infotainment through its three channels, BhaDipa, Bha2Pa and Vishay Khol. In 2017, BhaDiPa organized the Marathi stand-up comedy event ‘Secret Marathi Stand-up’ along with comedians like Sarang Sathaye, Aditya Desai, Gaurav Pawar, Divya Kharnare, Omkar Rege, Darshan Sonvale, Chetan Muley and Nipun Dharmadhikari and in various cities. BhaDiPa won the “Digital Content Company of the Year – Regional” award at the Talent Track Awards 2018 and the Best Web Series award at the Zee Marathi Comedy Awards in 2017 and 2018. BhaDiPa ventured into the music field and collaborated with Prafullachandra to release original songs such as “Suii Suii” for the 2021 Valentine’s Day AV. They collaborated with comedian Abish Mathew in 2018 to produce the short film “Aai ani Me” starring Renuka Daftardar, Mrinmayee Godbole, Alok Rajwade and Sarang Sathaye. In 2018, they produced a Harry Potter spoof video “If Hogwarts Were a Marathi School” starring actors Abhay Mahajan and Mohan Agashe. BhaDiPa’s shows include “Aaplya Baapachi” and “Miss Manners che Sanskar Varga”. As of October 2018, BhaDiPa’s Facebook page and YouTube channel have been viewed 150 million times and have over 1 million followers. In 2019, BhaDiPa started producing neutral election-related content for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and received funding from the Google News Initiative. They launched ‘Lok Manch’, interacting with politicians like Devendra Fadnavis, Raju Shetti and Supriya Sule. In April 2019, Lokmat Media acquired shares in Gulbadan Talkies Private Limited.

BhaDiPa has produced web series Pandu (2019) on MX Player and Chikatgunde (2020) on YouTube. Pandu presents the daily life of a Mumbai police officer in an interesting way. They collaborated with TVF to produce the web series “Shanti Kranti”, which aired on Sony Liv on August 13, 2021. They reached 1 million subscribers on YouTube on August 23, 2021, winning the Golden Play Button. In 2022, BhaDiPa collaborated with Scaler to produce BERojgaar, starring Sai Tamhankar, Sambhaji Sasane and Jagdish Kannam, which became one of the most viewed Marathi web series on YouTube.
