Paulina Porižkova takes care of her health.
The model, 58, revealed on Instagram on Thursday that she is undergoing “long overdue” double hip replacement surgery. Porizkova said her hips were “worn out” and had “no left” since she was born with congenital hip dysplasia.
Her post included a photo of her in a two-piece bikini and another where she was seen lying in a hospital room.
According to the Mayo Clinic, hip dysplasia can cause complications such as osteoarthritis or a hip fracture. It occurs when “the depth of the hip does not completely cover the ball of the upper part of the femur.”

He is gone,” Porižkova wrote. “The three doctors I visited all recoiled when they saw my X-rays. ‘Well, that’s bone on bone,’ they exclaimed. “At least we know you’re taking the pain well!” It’s actually so bad that it’s pointless to do just one hip. It would actually prevent healing and mobility.”
Porižkova said that she is happy that she had “the last break with her old hips” and that she is ready for new ones.
“I’m so grateful that this is a fixable problem,” she continued. “I found a doctor I really trust who specializes in anterior hip replacements, had an amazing vacation… and now – as my sister-in-law said – ‘take a break from kicking ass and let everyone wait on YOU for a change!'”

Although she admitted she was worried about the procedure, she wrote that she was grateful to “have my Jeff [Greenstein] next to me, my mom and dad Joe, my boys and a bunch of friends who volunteered to come and bring me soup.”
In an earlier post on Instagram, Porižkova revealed that she and her partner spent time on an island in the Caribbean.
“As many of you who have been my longtime IG friends may have noticed, I’ve been posting less than usual. It’s because I’m soaking up all the rays of happiness – realizing how precious and fleeting it all is. At the same time, I’m ‘sparing you endless sweet posts’ check it out “I’m having fun” photo,” she wrote in another Instagram post that featured a selfie with Greenstein.

“One of the amazing things about getting older is that you care less and less about what other people think,” she told PEOPLE. “You say, ‘You know what? I’ve done my part. I’ve served everybody for 50 years – now it’s my turn.'”
