Peter Reckell Invokes ‘Bragging Rights’ as Kristian Alfonso Reveals Tom Cruise Auditioned for Bo Brady in DOOL

Before he dominated the action movie genre, Tom Cruise almost made a career out of daytime soap operas.

During the episode Hey dude… The 90s called! podcast, Kristian Alfonso revealed that it is Mission Impossible star, 61, once threw his hat in the ring for a chance to play Bo Brady Days of our lives.

After she got the role of Hope Brady, the producers asked Alfonso to come and test shoot with several candidates for the role of Bo. While Peter Reckell was eventually cast, the 60-year-old actress revealed that Cruise was one of “five or six” who made it to the “final audition”.

Reckell, who appeared on the podcast alongside his former soap co-star, revealed he had no idea Cruise was being considered for the role.

“Oh, Peter, you knew it!” Alfonso chided himself before sharing an anecdote about their late colleague Frances Reid. “Remember when Fran sat next to him on the plane? On the way back from somewhere, Tom was there and they started talking, and she said she was working further Days of our lives. And he said, ‘Oh, I tested for the part of Bo.'”

Although he didn’t remember Alfonso’s bills, Reckell joked, “I could have used that for the last 40 years!” while co-host David Lascher joked: “This is a real brag for Peter.”

Cruise was not the only one who lost the opportunity to participate in the legendary daytime soap opera.

Elsewhere on the podcast, co-host Christine Taylor revealed that she auditioned for the role of Billie Reed, but ended up going to Lisa Rinna.

Despite this, Taylor shared that she was quite far along in the process and was “testing” with another actor to read their on-screen chemistry.

“It was nerve-racking,” she said. “We’re on stage with all the people filming and I’ve never tested anything in my life. Yes, Lisa Rinna won so I wasn’t offended. It’s not like I got the prototype of me, but it was a great experience.”

In the early ’90s, Taylor claimed that she “couldn’t get a soap to save my life,” even though she frequented auditions in Los Angeles and New York.

The Zoolander the star said that she was only 16 years old when she auditioned for another soap opera called A guiding light. The producers were looking for an actress who was “edgy,” and “16-year-old Allentown, Pennsylvania Christine” arrived at her casting with blow-dried straight hair, acid-washed jeans, and a denim jacket.
