Profession
Philip Green served as a diplomat in four countries. He has served as Australia’s Ambassador to Germany, Kenya (1998-2000), South Africa (2004-2008) and Singapore (2012-2016). In 2004, he headed the Australian Intelligence Agencies Review Secretariat. From 2009 to 2010, he served as the international adviser to the then Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. From 2010 to 2012, he served as chief of staff to Kevin Rudd, then foreign minister. During Donald Trump’s term in office (2017-2021), Philip also worked on Australia’s foreign relations with the United States of America. During this period he served as Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In 2016, he played an important role in strengthening Australia’s relationship with Singapore through agreements such as the Australia-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. Since 2017, he has overseen the implementation of Australia’s Indo-Pacific strategy. He is also involved in work on agreements such as the Enhanced Strategic Partnership with Germany and the 2021 Australia-Germany Hydrogen Agreement.

In June 2023, Australian Foreign Minister Anthony Wong announced that Philip Green would become the next Australian High Commissioner to India after Barry O’Farrell. He is Australia’s 22nd High Commissioner to India.
Awards, Honors, Achievements
- Philip Green was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his role in the response to the 2002 Bali horror tragedy, also known as the 2002 Bali bombings.
